Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Zach Freeman

Brown's Career Night Can't Stop Wolverines

The Lancaster Bible College men's basketball team saw its five-game win streak come to an end on Wednesday, as the Chargers lost to Wesley, 83-78 at Horst Athletic Center. Senior Herbie Brown had a career-high 36 points, but it wasn't enough, as Lancaster Bible fell to 6-2 this season, while the Wolverines improved to 2-5.

How it Happened: Both teams started tremendously slow from the field, as Lancaster Bible led just, 6-2 after 5:04 of action. Wesley took its first lead of the game, 7-6, on a 3-pointer from Brandon Lewis with 12:35 to play in the first half, that seemed to open the flood gates of scoring for both teams.

The Wolverines eventually led, 14-9 midway through the opening half, but a quick 5-0 run by senior Bill Livezey knotted the game at 14-14 after his first 3-pointer of the night with 9:32 remaining. Wesley continued to lead over the next three minutes, as the teams matched bucket for bucket, but Lancaster Bible used an 11-2 run over three minutes to grab a 34-27 advantage. Herbie Brown led the way, knocking down six free throws during the run, while freshman Matt Pereira drained a 3-pointer as well. The Chargers maintained the lead, and after leading by as many as 10, Wesley trimmed it to seven just before halftime.

Lancaster Bible came out cold in the second half as well, however this time, Wesley took advantage and used an 11-4 run in the opening 2:57 to tie the score at 45-45. Back-to-back layups from junior Christo Majok and Brown restored the Chargers' four-point lead, 49-45, but the Wolverines responded and took a 53-51 lead on a jumper from Evan Anderson with 12:34 to play. The jumper was part of an 11-0 run that saw Wesley take a 61-51 lead with 9:20 remaining.

Trailing, 64-54 moments later, Livezey and Brown led a 6-0 run that saw the Chargers cut their deficit to four, but Wesley again responded and took a 69-60 lead with 6:28 to play. Lancaster Bible trimmed its deficit to five on three different occasions, but couldn't get any closer, as the Wolverines won, 83-78.
