The Lancaster Bible College women's tennis team dropped its opening match of the 2017 season on Sunday as the Chargers lost to Mount Aloysius, 6-3 in Altoona, Pa. Mount Aloysius, which plays many of its matches in the fall, Â ended its season with a win and finished with an 8-6 record.
Lancaster Bible led 2-1 after the opening doubles matches as the number one team of freshmen
Greta Strunk and Lynndath Thelemaque won their first collegiate match, 8-6. Seniors
Stephanie Blest and
Rachel Snyder, the number three doubles team for Lancaster Bible also won, as they defeated Mackenzie Roush and Mackenzie Sweitzer, 8-6.
The Chargers struggled in singles play however as Mount Aloysius won five of the six matches and secured the 6-3 win. Strunk played well at number one singles for the Chargers as she lost, 7-6 (5), 6-3, while Thelemaque lost, 7-5, 6-4 at number two singles.
Senior
Brianne Smith played the best singles match of the day as she and her opponent, Joselyn Walters split the first two sets, each winning, 6-3, before Walters took the third set super tie-breaker, 10-5. Senior
Kayla Weaser dropped a 6-4, 6-0 decision at number four singles and Blest dropped a 7-6 (5), 6-3 decision at number five singles. The lone singles win belonged to sophomore
Sarah Wetzel as she won, 6-2, 6-3.
The Chargers return to the court on Tuesday when they face Penn St. Harrisburg at 3:30 p.m. in Middletown, Pa.
