The Lancaster Bible College baseball team saw its six-game winning streak end on Wednesday as the Chargers lost to Eastern, 10-6 in St. Davids, Pa. The Chargers dropped to 8-4 with the loss, while the Eagles improved to 5-8.
How it Happened: Lancaster Bible opened the scoring in the top of the first as sophomore
Adam Cohick kept his hot bat going and drove in senior
Justin Taylor who had singled earlier in the inning. The Eagles wasted little time responding as they exploded for five runs in the bottom half of the inning and chased Lancaster Bible starter
Dan Zimmerman after one inning. Eastern's Andrew Boykin delivered the big hit in the bottom of the first as he connected for a grand slam that gave the Eagles a 5-1 advantage.
Eastern added three more runs in the bottom of the second against sophomore
Zach Bonick, who eventually calmed down and pitched well for the Chargers.Â
Trailing 8-1 in the top of the fifth, Lancaster Bible got three runs back on one swing as sophomore
Will Welsh crushed his fifth home run of the season that plated
Jensen King and
Justin Taylor. The Chargers scored again in the eighth as King singled home freshman
Beau Heagy to cut Lancaster Bible's deficit to 8-5.Â
Eastern got two runs back in the bottom half of the eighth to make it 10-5, but Lancaster Bible wouldn't go away as the Chargers scored once in the top of the ninth on an RBI single by junior
Braden Elliott to make it 10-6 and then brought the tying run to the plate with two outs. The Chargers late-game magic ended with three on base however as Eastern's Shane Albertson retired freshman
Sam Taylor to end the game.
