The Lancaster Bible College women's tennis team won its first match of the season on Friday as the Chargers defeated Trinity (D.C.), 7-0 at Hempfield Rec Center in Landisville, Pa. The win propels the Chargers to 1-2 this season, while Trinity dropped to 0-5.Â
The Chargers got off to a good start as all three doubles teams earned victories. The number one doubles team of
Greta Strunk and Lynndath Thelemaque won for the third straight match as they earned an 8-0 victory.
Brianne Smith and
Kayla Weaser won, 8-2 at number two doubles, while seniors
Stephanie Blest and
Rachel Snyder earned their second win of the season with an 8-0 victory at number three doubles.
Strunk and Thelemaque also won their singles matches for the second straight match as Strunk won, 6-1, 6-1 at number one singles. Thelemaque cruised to a 6-4, 6-1 victory at number two singles to improve to 2-1 this year. Smith, a senior, won her first match of the season as she breezed to a 6-1, 6-1 victory at number three singles.Â
Due to the match beginning later than scheduled and the courts only allowed to used until 6 p.m., the singles matches of Weaser and Blest did not finish at number four and five. Sophomore
Sarah Wetzel was able to finish her match at number six singles as she won for the second time this season with a 6-1, 6-0 victory.
Lancaster Bible is right back at it on Saturday as the Chargers host Wells in each school's North Eastern Athletic Conference opener. The match, originally scheduled for 12 p.m. at Linden Hall School in Lititz, has been moved to 12:30 p.m. at Raquet Club West in Lancaster, Pa.
