The Lancaster Bible College women's tennis team won for the second straight day as the Charges opened North Eastern Athletic Conference play with a 7-2 victory over Wells at Racquet Club West in Lancaster, Pa. The Chargers are now 2-2, 1-0 NEAC, while the Express fell to 0-4, 0-1 NEAC.
Lancaster Bible won two of three doubles matches for the second straight day as the number one team of
Greta Strunk and
Lynndath Thelemaque improved to 4-0 this season with an 8-2 victory. The number two doubles team of
Brianne Smith and
Kayla Weaser also won for the second straight day as they defeated Nicole Sanborn and Yui Omachida, 8-5. The number three doubles team of
Stephanie Blest and
Rachel Snyder played well, but couldn't overcome Aala Al-Hashimi and Nao Shimada, as the Chargers lost, 8-4.
Singles play was all Chargers for the second straight day as Strunk and Thelemaque got the team started with big wins at number one and number two singles. Strunk cruised, 6-1, 6-0, while Thelemaque won, 6-3, 6-2. Smith was impressive for the second day in a row with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Momoko Nakahama at number three singles.
Weaser was tripped up at number four singles as she lost, 6-3, 6-4, but was picked up by teammates Blest and
Sarah Wetzel, who won at number five and six singles respectively. Blest won her match, 6-1, 6-3, while Wetzel defeated Shimada, 6-4, 6-1.
The win over Wells is the first for the Chargers in program history as Lancaster Bible entered the match, 0-5 all-time against the Express.Â
Lancaster Bible is back on the court on Wednesday when the Chargers take on Trinity (D.C.) at 3:30 p.m. in Washington, D.C. The Chargers defeated Trinity, 7-0 on Friday evening.
