The Lancaster Bible College women's tennis team is heading to the North Eastern Athletic Conference Playoffs for the first time in program history as the Chargers clinched a berth in the postseason with a 9-0 thrashing of Bryn Athyn on Friday at Hempfield Rec Center in Landisville, Pa. Lancaster Bible is now 6-3 overall and 4-0 in conference play, while Bryn Athyn dropped to 1-4 overall and 1-4 in NEAC play.Â
The Chargers have two NEACÂ matches remaining, but can finish no worse than third and thus have clinched a spot in the postseason tournament which will be held at the end of the month.
On Friday, Lancaster Bible, has it has most of the year, jumped out to a great start with three doubles victories. The number one doubles team of
Greta Strunk and
Lynndath Thelemaque improved to 8-1 this season as they won, 8-1, while the number two team of
Brianne Smith and
Kayla Weaser won, 8-0. The third flight of
Stephanie Blest and
Rachel Snyder also won, taking down Adair Brock and Allison Warren, 8-1.
The Chargers dominated singles play as well, letting Bryn Athyn grab just seven games in the six matches. Strunk won her flight one match, 6-1, 6-1, while Thelemaque won, 6-0, 6-1 over Catherine Kirk. Smith was victorious in flight three, 6-3, 6-1 and Weaser defeated Maia Wyncoll, 6-0, 6-0. Blest won her flight five match, 6-0, 6-0 and
Sarah Wetzel followed as well, winning her flight six match, 6-0, 6-0.
Lancaster Bible is back on the court on Wednesday when they face Penn St. Berks in Reading, Pa. at 3:30 p.m.
