The Lancaster Bible College women's tennis team lost its first North Eastern Athletic Conference match of the season on Wednesday, falling to Penn St. Berks, 8-1 in Reading, Pa. The Chargers are now 6-4 overall and 4-1 in NEAC play, while Penn St. Berks improves to 8-5 overall and 5-0 in conference play.
Lancaster Bible dropped all three doubles matches on Wednesday as the Nittany Lions opened an early 3-0 lead. The flight one team of
Greta Strunk and Lynndath Thelemaque played well, but suffered only their second loss of the season, falling to Caroline Bashore and Laura Youwakim, 8-4. The flight two and flight three teams of
Brianne Smith and
Kayla Weaser and
Stephanie Blest and
Rachel Snyder both lost, 8-0.
Freshman
Greta Strunk earned the only point for the Chargers on Wednesday as she defeated Bashore, 6-4, 6-3 in flight one singles. Thelemaque lost, 6-2, 6-2 to Kianna Anderson, while Smith fell at number three singles, 6-2, 6-4. Weaser played Youwakim well at number four singles, but ultimately fell, 7-5, 6-4. Blest lost in flight five, 6-0, 6-0, while sophomore
Sarah Wetzel lost to Brittany Mecca, 6-0, 6-1 at number six singles.
The Chargers return to the court on Friday when they close out their regular season by hosting Penn St. Abington at 3:30 p.m. The match will be played at Hempfield Rec Center in Landisville, Pa. Prior to the match, the Chargers will honor seniors Weaser, Smith, Blest and Snyder.
