Chargers Cage Lions

The Lancaster Bible College women's volleyball team opened North Eastern Athletic Conference play on Monday night and the Chargers came away with not only their first conference win of the season, but their second straight victory overall as they improved to 2-3 overall. Bryn Athyn, meanwhile, is headed in the opposite direction as the Lions dropped to 0-4 overall and 0-2 in NEAC play. Lancaster Bible won the match, 25-8, 25-21, 25-8.

How it Happened: Lancaster Bible cruised to a first set victory, 25-8, as the Chargers took advantage of 12 Bryn Athyn errors. The Chargers allowed just one Bryn Athyn kill in the opening set, which sophomore Allison Shuey finished off with an ace. 

Lancaster Bible looked to be headed towards another fairly easy second-set victory, as the Chargers led, 22-17 late in the set. Bryn Athyn however, strung together three straight points and closed the gap to 22-20. After the teams exchanged points, Lancaster Bible once again took advantage of Bryn Athyn errors and won the set, 25-21 after back-to-back mistakes from the home team.

After a close second set, the Chargers blew past the Lions in the third, as Lancaster Bible won the final seven points of the set to earn another 25-8 win.

By the Numbers: Lancaster Bible had 33 kills, while Bryn Athyn managed just 10...The Chargers had just 14 errors and had a 25.3 hitting percentage...Freshman Aleah Heyworth led the Chargers with eight kills, while fellow freshman Bekah Roberts had seven kills...Sophomore Ashtyn Bouslog added six kills and junior Hannah Thompson led Lancaster Bible with 13 digs...Shuey had 26 assists to go with five digs, two aces and two kills...Hannah Gipe and Bekah Baxter each chipped in with three kills.

Information Hodge Podge: Lancaster Bible is now 12-2 all-time against Bryn Athyn...This is the third straight year and fourth time in seven seasons in the NEAC, that the Chargers have opened conference play with a victory...The Chargers defeated Wells last season to open NEAC play, 1-0...The 25.3 hitting percentage is a season-high for the Chargers.
