The Lancaster Bible College women's volleyball team went 1-1 on Saturday, as the Chargers hosted their first tri-match of the season. Lancaster Bible defeated St. Elizabeth, 3-1 in the morning, improving to 2-1 in North Eastern Athletic Conference play, but lost to St. Mary's (Md.), 3-0 in the afternoon and are now 3-5 overall this season. Below is a recap of each match.
Lancaster Bible 3, St. Elizabeth 1
25-23, 20-25, 25-7, 25-19
How it Happened: Lancaster Bible trailed, 6-2 early in the first set, but won four of the next five points to cut its deficit to just one, 7-6. Later in the set, the Chargers would win six straight points to grab a 12-9 advantage, but St. Elizabeth hung tough and eventually took a 20-15 lead. The Chargers dug in and won eight of the next nine points and took a 23-21 lead late in the set. After the teams exchanged points twice, junior
Hannah Gipe's kill sealed the first set win for the Chargers.
The second set did not go well for the Chargers as they committed nine errors and lost, 25-20.
The third set was much better for Lancaster Bible as they hammered home nine kills and committed just one error and cruised to a 25-7 victory.
The fourth set mirrored the first set, as the teams went back-and-forth, as the Chargers strung together four of five points and grabbed a 17-12 lead. St. Elizabeth hung tough and won the next three points to cut its deficit to 17-15 and eventually trimmed the deficit to 19-17. Lancaster Bible took advantage of four straight St. Elizabeth errors however, and an ace from freshman
Aleah Heyworth gave the Chargers a 24-17 lead. After the Eagles got two points back, freshman
Bekah Baxter smashed home a kill and gave the Chargers the victory.

By the Numbers: Lancaster Bible had 41 kills, while St. Elizabeth had 28…The Chargers also had 55 digs, while the Eagles managed 45…Lancaster Bible also eclipsed double-digit aces for the third time this season, as the Chargers had 10…Gipe led Lancaster Bible with 10 kills, while

St. Mary's (Md.) 3, Lancaster Bible 0
25-16, 25-23, 25-11
How it Happened: Lancaster Bible struggled out of the gate in the first set, as St. Mary's (Md.) took a commanding 12-4 lead after winning seven straight points. The Chargers closed the gap to 16-10 midway through the set, but the Seahawks won six straight points and led 22-10, before earning the 25-16 victory.
Lancaster Bible battled in the second set and a kill by Roberts midway through, tied the set at 12-12. After the Seahawks won the next two points, the Chargers earned four of the next five points and grabbed a 16-15 lead on an ace from junior
Erin Harkey. Next it was St. Mary's turn to take the momentum as they won the next four points and took a 19-16 lead on three kills and an ace. The Chargers eventually tied the match at 22-22 on an ace from Gipe, but two errors and an ace over the next four points gave the set to the Seahawks, as a block from Audrey McKay and Grace Siefert gave St. Mary's the set.
Things took a turn for the worst in the third set for the Chargers, as St. Mary's won 16 of the first 17 points and led 16-1 before a kill from Heyworth finally broke a streak of 14 straight points by the Seahawks. The Chargers battled and tried to get back into the set, but the hole they dug themselves was too much and the Seahawks won, 25-11.
By the Numbers: St. Mary's had 33 kills, while committing just 12 errors...The Chargers had 27 kills, but committed 28 errors...Lancaster Bible had 44 digs, while the Seahawks had 48...Heyworth had a team-high seven kills, while Roberts had six kills and three blocks...Senior
