Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Zach Freeman

Lancaster Bible Powers Past Penn College

The Lancaster Bible College men's basketball team won it second straight game on Saturday, defeating Penn College, 75-57 at Horst Athletic Center in the first game of a conference weekend doubleheader. Lancaster Bible is now 10-4 overall this season and a perfect 6-0 in North Eastern Athletic Conference play, while the Wildcats dropped to 1-12 overall and 0-4 in conference action.

How it Happened: Lancaster Bible opened the game on a 7-0 run over the first three minutes, as junior Christo Majok had all seven of the Chargers' points, two of which came on a put-back dunk. After Penn College cut its deficit to three, Lancaster Bible extended it lead back to seven a few minutes later on the first of four 3-pointers from sophomore Luke Beers with 14:19 left in the first half.

The Chargers led by as many as nine midway through the opening half, but Penn College continued to hang around and trailed by just three after a layup from Robert Young, Jr. with 6:27 remaining. Lancaster Bible rebuilt an eight-point lead minutes later, but let the Wildcats close the gap to two with under a minute to play in the first half, before taking a three-point advantage, 34-31 into halftime.

The Wildcats continued to hang around in the second half, as the Chargers again built a lead, but quickly saw it fade. Penn College took its first and only lead of the game with 12:51 to play, as Ben Sosa converted a layup and gave the Wildcats a 44-43 advantage. Lancaster Bible responded on its next possession, as junior Quentin Davis put home a layup on a nice feed from fellow junior Alex Whitt.

The bucket from Davis began a 18-0 run for the Chargers over the next 5:46, as they blew the game wide open. Davis ended the run with another layup, as Beers had five points during the run, and senior  Jalen Archer knocked down a 3-pointer. Though the Wildcats finally snapped their scoring drought, the Chargers came right back and senior Herbie Brown's layup with 5:49 to play gave Lancaster Bible its biggest lead of the game at 65-46.

By the Numbers: Lancaster Bible shot 26-of-63 (41.3 percent) from the floor, though just 9-of-30 from 3-point range...Penn College was 22-of-66 (33.3 percent) from the field, and just 6-of-23 from distance...Beers had a game-high and career-high 16 points, while Herbie Brown finished with 13 points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals...Majok was the third and final player in double figures for Lancaster Bible with 12 points and 10 boards...Freshman Britton Beachy added eight points, while Archer had seven points, five assists and three steals...James Bullock and Erik Perry, Jr. each had 12 points to pace the Wildcats.
