The Lancaster Bible College men's basketball team suffered its first loss of the 2018-19 season on Friday night, as the Chargers fell to Salisbury, 92-73 at the Salisbury Optimist International Tournament in Salisbury, Md. The Chargers are now 1-1 this season, while the Sea Gulls improved to 2-0.

Britton Beachy capped the run over the first 3:37 of the contest. The Chargers continued to lead throughout the midway point of the first half, and took an 18-10 advantage after a three-point play from senior
Alex Whitt with 11:59 to play.

The Sea Gulls continued to chip away at their deficit, and took the lead, 22-21 on a 3-pointer from Gary Briddell with 8:23 to play in the first half. Lancaster Bible regained the lead on another 3-pointer from Shewbridge, but a 12-0 run by Salisbury a few minutes later gave the Sea Gulls a 36-26 advantage with 5:16 left. Lancaster Bible struggled to stay close late in the first half, but two free throws from Beachy with 50 seconds to play cut the deficit to 10 at halftime.

The Chargers continued to fight early in the second half, as a layup from junior
Luke Beers brought Lancaster Bible to within six, 51-45. It would be as close as the Chargers would get however, as the Sea Gulls embarked on a 16-2 run, and took a 67-47 lead on a layup from Marquis Roberson with 13:28 to play.

Lancaster Bible tried to trim the deficit back to single digits later in the half, but could only get as close as 13, as the Sea Gulls put the Chargers away.

By the Numbers: Lancaster Bible shot 40.7 percent (22-of-54) from the field, but just 28.6 percent (6-of-21) from 3-point range, though the Chargers were 23-of-30 from the free throw line…Salisbury shot 52.3 percent (34-of-65) from the floor, and 37.5 percent (9-of-24) from beyond the arc…Shewbridge led the Chargers with 19 points, and drained four more 3-pointers, after sinking five in his first collegiate game on Tuesday…Senior
Quentin Davis added 16 points and five rebounds, while Beers finished with 14 points and six rebounds…Whitt had a team-high eight boards to go with seven points, while Beach had 11 points, four rebounds and three assists.

Information Hodge Podge: Friday night was the first meeting between the two schools…Shewbridge is averaging 18 points per game over his first two collegiate games…Lancaster Bible has now lost its last three road games dating back to last season.
