Shoremen Take Two from Chargers

The Lancaster Bible College baseball team dropped two games on Saturday, falling to Washington (Md.) in Chestertown, Md. The Shoremen took game one, 6-2, and rallied to win game two, 4-3. Lancaster Bible is now 0-4 this season, while Washington (Md.) improved to 2-0.

Game 1: Washington (Md.) 6, Lancaster Bible 2
Game Notes: After two scoreless innings, including a 1-2-3 first inning in freshman Noah McMullen's first-ever collegiate start, the Chargers opened the scoring in the top of the third on an RBI groundout from senior Braden Elliott...The Shoremen answered with two runs in the bottom half of the third, and made it 3-1 in the fourth...Trailing 5-1 in the top of the sixth, Lancaster Bible junior Will Welsh singled, followed by a walk to junior Adam Cohick...After an out, sophomore Matt Taylor reached on an error, which scored Welsh and moved Cohick to third...With runners on second and third, Lancaster Bible couldn't plate another run, and Washington (Md.) got out of the inning...The Shoremen added another run in the bottom half of the inning to make it 6-2 and won the game by the same score.

Inside the Box Score: Welsh finished 2-for-3 with a run scored for Lancaster Bible, while sophomore Sam Taylor, junior Colin Myers and senior Jacob Schenck had the other Chargers' hits...Schenck also scored a run for Lancaster Bible...McMullen pitched well, going four innings, and allowing just five hits and three earned runs...He also struck out a batter...Fellow freshman Trevor High pitched the final 1 2/3 innings of the game for the Chargers and allowed a hit and an earned run.

Game 2: Washington (Md.) 4, Lancaster Bible 3
Game Notes: The Shoremen scored in the bottom of the first, but Lancaster Bible responded in the top half of the third, as senior Josh Mayer singled home freshman Chris Sipple to tie the game at 1-1...The Chargers took their first lead of the game in the top of the fifth when Elliott singled to the left side, scoring Sam Taylor who scored on a throwing error...Cohick hit a sacrifice fly later in the inning that scored Elliot and made it 3-1...Washington (Md.) got a run back in the bottom of the fifth, after holding the Chargers scoreless in the top of the sixth, re-took the lead in the bottom of the sixth on a two-run single...Lancaster Bible could not generate any offense in its final at-bat and lost its fourth straight.

Inside the Box Score: Elliott finished 2-for-4 for Lancaster Bible, while Sam Taylor, Mayer, Cohick, and Myers had the other hits for the Chargers...Sipple drew a walk and scored a run for the Chargers...Lancaster Bible stole four bases...Lancaster Bible starter Dan Zimmerman went three innings and allowed just two hits and an earned run, while striking out three...Elliott gave up just two earned runs in relief.

Information Hodge Podge: This was the first meeting between the two teams...Lancaster Bible is hitting just .178 through four games this season...Myers has four hits in 10 at-bats this season, while Cohick, Mayer and Sam Taylor each have three hits.
