The Lancaster Bible College baseball team is still searching for its first victory of the 2018 season, after falling to Hood, 5-4 on Tuesday in Frederick, Md. The Chargers are now 0-5 this season, while the Blazers improved to 5-0.Â
Game Notes: Lancaster Bible loaded the bases in the top of the first, and junior Adam Cohick drew a walk to drive in the first run...Sophomore Matt Taylor was hit by a pitch following the walk, and senior Josh Mayer scored to make it 2-0 in favor of the Chargers...Senior JJ Sanchez followed with a single that drove in junior Will Welsh, and the Chargers were in front 3-0 just seven batters into the game...Starter Zack Leonard worked out of a jam in the bottom of the first, and Lancaster Bible led 3-1 after three innings, as Hood got a run back in the bottom of the third...Hood got another run back in the fourth, but Lancaster Bible responded in the top of the fifth, as Sanchez scored an unearned run to restore the Chargers' two-run lead...The 4-2 lead stood up until the bottom of the eighth, when Hood tied the game on a two-run single, and then took a 5-4 lead later in the inning on a sacrifice fly...Lancaster Bible put runners on first and second in the top of the ninth, but couldn't bring the tying run around.
Inside the Box Score: Senior Braden Elliott and Mayer each had two hits and scored a run...Welsh finished 1-for-3 with two walks...Matt Taylor also drew two walks to go along with his hit and RBI...Leonard went 4 1/3 innings, and allowed just two hits, while striking out three, but issued five walks...Freshman Landon Mowry worked his first two collegiate innings and didn't allow a hit.
Information Hodge Podge: Lancaster Bible is now 1-4 all-time against Hood...The Chargers lost 7-1 and 15-4 last season against the Blazers...Mayer leads the team this season with five hits in five games.
