Chargers Upended by Nittany Lions

The Lancaster Bible College women's tennis team lost for the first time this season on Monday, falling to Penn St. Harrisburg, 8-1 in Middletown, Pa. The Chargers are now 1-1 this season, while the Nittany Lions improved to 4-8.

The Chargers dropped all three doubles matches, as the number one team of Greta Strunk and Michaela Dearborn lost, 8-2, while the second flight team of Lynndath Thelemaque and Sara Wetzel fell, 8-1. Haylee Fishel and Lydia Dice, the number three doubles team, lost 8-4.

Strunk dropped her flight one singles match, in a hard fought battle that went back-and-forth. Strunk, a sophomore, fell to Sydney Nye, 7-6 (4), 6-4, losing a singles match for just the third time in her collegiate career. Dearborn dropped her match at number two singles, while Thelemaque picked up the lone win for the Chargers in her flight three singles match. Thelemaque defeated Courtney Bennett, 6-4, 6-1, earning her second straight singles victory and the 10th of her collegiate career.

Wetzel fell at number four singles, 7-5, 6-0, while Fishel dropped her fight five match, 6-1, 6-2. Dice battled at number six singles, but lost, 6-2, 6-0.

Lancaster Bible returns to the court on Tuesday when the Chargers face Delaware Valley at 4 p.m. in Doylestown, Pa.
