The Lancaster Bible College women's tennis team saw its three-match winning streak come to an end on Wednesday, as the Chargers lost 7-2 to Penn St. Berks at Hempfield Rec Center in Landisville, Pa. The Chargers are now 4-3 overall and 1-1 in North Eastern Athletic Conference play, while the Nittany Lions improved to 4-5 overall and 2-0 in conference action.
The flight one doubles team of Greta Strunk and Michaela Dearborn nearly pulled off the upset, but ultimately lost to Caroline Bashore and Laura Youwakim, 8-6. Lynndath Thelemaque and Sarah Wetzel lost 8-3 at number two doubles, while the flight three team of Haylee Fishel and Lydia Dice lost 8-0.
Strunk got a point for the Chargers in singles action, as she defeated Alyssa Miller in flight one singles, 6-0, 6-3. Dearborn picked up the other victory for the Chargers, defeating Youwakim, 6-4, 3-6, 10-7 in number three singles. Thelemaque lost 6-4, 6-3 to Bashore in flight two singles, while Wetzel, Fishel and Dice also dropped their matches.
The Chargers return to the court on Saturday when they host St. Elizabeth at 1 p.m. The match will again take place at Hempfield Rec Center.
