Chargers Split Doubleheader with Wildcats

The Lancaster Bible College baseball team split a doubleheader on Monday with Cazenovia, as the Wildcats took game one, 4-3, but the Chargers rebounded for a 22-2 victory in game two. The split moves the Chargers' record to 17-12 overall and 7-6 in North Eastern Athletic Conference play, while the Wildcats are now 9-18 overall and 3-11 in NEAC action.
 
(Monday's games were originally to be played at Cazenovia on Saturday, but were moved to Lancaster. The Wildcats were still the home team in both games on Monday.)
 
Cazenovia 4, Lancaster Bible 3 – Game 1
Game Notes:
-After the first three innings were scoreless, the Chargers finally broke through in the top of the fourth, as JJ Sanchez singled to left field, scoring Josh Mayer who had singled earlier in the inning…Matt Taylor also scored on the play, as the left field made a fielding error after the single
-Lancaster Bible starter Dan Zimmerman worked a scoreless fourth inning, but ran into trouble in the fifth…After getting the first two batters of the inning out, Zimmerman hit a batter and walked another…Bobby Antonacci then homered over the center field wall to give the Wildcats a 3-2 lead
-The Wildcats tacked on another run in the sixth when Jake Welsh homered to right field, to make it 4-2
-The Chargers cut their deficit to one, 4-3, in the seventh inning as Will Welsh scored on a fielder's choice, but Lancaster Bible could not plate the tying run and lost by one
 
Inside the Box Score:
-Both teams had just six hits, as the Chargers left 10 runners on base
-Sam Taylor, Colin Myers, Welsh, Mayer, Cohick and Sanchez each had a hit for the Chargers, while Welsh and Mayer each drew two walks as well
-Zimmerman pitched well, going six innings and allowing just six hits and four runs, while striking out five
-Jake Welsh was 2-for-3 for Cazenovia, including his first home run of the season

Game Notes:
-Lancaster Bible started quickly and kept the offense going for nine innings in game two, as the Chargers scored five runs in the first inning, two in the second, one in the third and then 11 in the fifth
-Beau Heagy and Cohick had RBI singles in the first, while Sam Taylor stole home…Sanchez and Schenck also had RBI hits in the first inning
-Welsh had an RBI groundout in the second inning for Lancaster Bible, while Sam Taylor scored on a balk for the other run in the inning
-Nate McFarland made it 8-0 in the third inning with a sacrifice fly, before the Chargers scored 11 times in the fifth
-The Chargers sent 15 batters to the plate in the fifth inning, as they scored 11 runs and had seven hits
-Cazenovia got two runs back in the sixth inning, but Lancaster Bible scored in the eighth on an RBI from Nate Buonomo, and then capped the scoring with a two-run home from Mike VanDame in the top of the ninth
 
Inside the Box Score:
-Lancaster Bible had 22 hits in game two, while the Wildcats had just five
-Sam Taylor was 5-for-7 with three runs and two RBI, while Colin Myers was 2-for-6 with three runs and three RBI
-Nate McFarland was 1-for-4 with three runs and three RBI, and Mayer was 2-for-5 with a run scored
-Sanchez was 3-for-3 with two RBI and a run, while Cohick was 3-for-5 with four runs and two RBI
-Schenck was 2-for-2 with two RBI and two runs, while VanDame added a hit with two RBI and a run
-Jake Hahn was 1-for-2 with a run, and Heagy was 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI
-Kyle Ebersole started for the Chargers and was tremendous over four innings, as he allowed just one hit and struck out five…Tyler Greenly worked two innings and allowed just two hits, as he earned his first win of the season…Trevor High and Adam Cohick pitched the final three innings, as High struck out four in two innings
 
Information Hodge Podge: Lancaster Bible is now 7-8-1 all-time against Cazenovia…Sam Taylor now has 50 hits this season, becoming the first player to collect 50 or more hits in a season since his brother Justin Taylor had 65 in 2016…Game two marked the fourth time this season the Chargers have scored 20 or more runs in a game this season…Lancaster Bible is now 6-7 at home this season.
 
Up Next: Lancaster Bible is attempting to complete its game against Penn St. Abington from April 6 sometime this week, though no date or time has been agreed upon…Currently, the Chargers are scheduled to play at SUNY Poly on Friday in Utica, N.Y. and then face SUNY Cobleskill on Saturday in Cobleskill, N.Y.
