The Lancaster Bible College baseball team ran into a buzzsaw on Sunday afternoon, as Penn St. Berks swept a doubleheader from the Chargers at Charger Field. The Nittany Lions won game one, 7-1 and took game two, 16-7. The losses drop the Chargers to 10-8 overall this season, and 0-3 in North Eastern Athletic Conference play, while the Nittany Lions improved to 9-7 overall and 4-0 in conference action.
Penn St. Berks 7, Lancaster Bible 1 – Game 1
Game Notes:
-After two scoreless innings for both teams, Penn St. Berks scored three times in the top of the third, despite not recording a hit in the inning…Chargers' starter Zack Leonard walked back-to-back batters to open the inning and Lancaster Bible committed two errors later in the inning that led to three runs
-The Chargers put two runners on with two outs in the bottom half of the third, but could not convert on starter Jameson Glass
-Lancaster Bible did get a run back in the bottom of the fourth, as catcher JJ Sanchez grounded to second base, but the ball was booted, and junior Will Welsh scored from third…The bases remained loaded, but the Chargers would not get any more runs as Jacob Schenck struck out and Sam Taylor grounded into a fielder's choice
-Penn St. Berks' Toby Welk made the Chargers pay in the fifth, as he hit a solo home run over the left field wall
-Lancaster Bible couldn't score in the fifth with the bases loaded and nobody out, and Penn St. Berks scored two more times in the sixth to make it 6-1 in favor of the Nittany Lions
-The Nittany Lions tacked on another run in the seventh, and Lancaster Bible couldn't do anything in the seventh, as Glass pitched a complete game

-The Chargers got on the board first, as Sam Taylor walked, and eventually got to third, before Braden Elliott put down a perfect suicide-squeeze bunt, as Taylor crossed home plate right after the bunt was put down
-Penn St. Berks took a 3-1 lead in the top of the third, as Welk crushed a three-run home run to left field off Lancaster Bible starter Kyle Ebersole
-The Nittany Lions scored four more times in the top of the fourth, but just like game one's big inning, did not record a hit, as they drew six walks and took advantage of an error, to make it a 7-1 game
-Lancaster Bible got a run back in the fourth, but the Nittany Lions scored three more times in the fifth to extend the lead to 10-2
-The Chargers got two 2-run home runs from Welsh and Matt Taylor in the bottom of the sixth to cut the deficit to 10-6, but Penn St. Berks scored five times in the seventh, highlighted by Welk's grand slam
