Playing for the first time since October of 1985, the Lancaster Bible College field hockey team opened a new era on Friday with a 9-0 loss at Roanoke. The Chargers are now 0-1, while the Maroons improved to 1-0.
How it Happened: Roanoke scored 1:20 into the contest, and three more times over the first 15 minutes to take an early 4-0 lead, but Lancaster Bible hung tough, and didn't allow a goal the rest of the opening half. Playing two players down, the Chargers were held off the scoreboard during the first half, but fill-in goalkeeper
Annelise Culbert made two saves during the opening 35 minutes for Lancaster Bible.
In the second half, Roanoke scored an early goal to make it 5-0, but the Chargers once again held the Maroons off the scoreboard for 20+ minutes midway through the half. Roanoke scored four late goals to increase its lead, though Lancaster Bible did manage two shots in the second frame.
By the Numbers: Roanoke outshot the Chargers, 34-2, and held a 9-1 edge in penalty corners...Culbert finished with eight saves, while
Cristina Winchell and
Nicole DeKok recorded Lancaster Bible's shots.

Information Hodge Podge: Lancaster Bible is now 0-1 all-time against Roanoke...This was Lancaster Bible's first game since October 1985, when the Chargers ended their season with an 8-0 loss to then-Philadelphia College of the Bible (now Cairn).
