The Lancaster Bible College women's volleyball team saw its three-match winning streak come to an end on Tuesday night, as the Chargers were swept by Mount Aloysius, 3-0 in Cresson, Pa. The loss drops the Chargers to 3-4 this season, while the Mounties improved to 2-5. Mount Aloysius snapped the Chargers' win streak by winning the match, 25-19, 25-17, 25-13.
The Chargers had 10 of their 25 kills in the match during the opening set, but had six errors as well, and couldn't mount a comeback, losing 25-19. In the second set, the Chargers committed just three errors, but had just nine kills, and allowed 13 kills to Mount Aloysius, falling 25-17. Things went from bad to worse in the third set, as Lancaster Bible managed just six kills against eight errors, en route to a 25-13 defeat.
Lancaster Bible hit at a 6.1% hitting percentage, but allowed the Mounties to smash 45 kills, and a 32.7 hitting percentage. The Chargers did lead the Mounties, 6-5 in blocks, but that was the lone offensive or defensive category that went Lancaster Bible's way.
Senior
Courtney Goyak had a team-high six kills to go with four blocks, while
Aleah Heyworth,
Allison Shuey and
Bekah Roberts each added four kills.
Maelynne Patey added two kills for the Chargers, while
Taylor Beeler added a kill and a block. Senior
Hannah Thompson added a team-best 16 digs, while
Martina McCauley had two kills.
"We struggled tonight, no question," Lancaster Bible Head Coach
Micah Herron said. "We just didn't seem ready to play, and couldn't find a rhythm during the match. We need to address some things and practice on Wednesday, and be ready for Clarks Summit on Thursday."
Lancaster Bible is now 2-11 all-time against the Mounties.
The Chargers will host their first match of the season on Thursday, when Lancaster Bible welcomes Clarks Summit to Horst Athletic Center at 7 p.m.
