Box Score The Lancaster Bible College women's volleyball team won its 2018 home opener on Thursday night, defeating Clarks Summit, 3-1 at Horst Athletic Center. The Chargers won 25-8, 25-12, 22-25, 25-13, and improved to 4-4 this season, while the Defenders fell to 1-8.
Match Recap: The Chargers jumped out to a 13-1 lead in the first set, as 
Ashtyn Bouslog and 
Hannah Thompson combined for four aces. Lancaster Bible four separate streaks of at least five straight points throughout the set, and closed out the set on a kill from Bouslog.
The second set was identical to the first in the early going, as the Chargers opened with nine straight points, and eventually led, 10-1. Two kills from 
Courtney Goyak, and two more aces from Bouslog, highlighted the run, and the Chargers cruised to a second set victory which Goyak closed out with another kill.
The Defenders hung tough and battled in the third set, as the Chargers struggled to find the same consistency from the opening two sets. Clarks Summit won six of seven points midway through the third frame to take a 16-13 lead, and held off a late charge by Lancaster Bible to win the set, 25-22.
The fourth set went back-and-forth in the early points, but Lancaster Bible won eight of nine points midway through the set, and grabbed a 15-7 lead. The Chargers fought off another comeback attempt by the Defenders, and won the match on a Clarks Summit error.
By the Numbers: Lancaster Bible held a massive 48-18 advantage in kills, as well as an 11-5 edge in aces...Goyak led the Chargers with 13 kills, and had just two errors for a .458 hitting percentage...Goyak also had four kills, while 
Hannah Gipe had 11 kills...
Allison Shuey had four kills, 35 assists, and a team-best 14 digs, while 
Aleah Heyworth had nine kills and three blocks...Bouslog and 
Hannah Thompson each had four aces, while 
Erin Harkey had three aces.
The Coach Says: "We played well in the first two sets, but we can't have sets like the third, where we are inconsistent and not mentally strong," Lancaster Bible Head Coach 
Micah Herron said. "We have to be able to finish off opponents, and be mentally tough in each and every set."
Information Hodge Podge: Lancaster Bible is now 11-40 all-time against Clarks Summit, though the Chargers have won the last five matchups over the Defenders...Goyak's 13 kills tied a career-high...Thursday marked the third time in eight matches that the Chargers have had double-digit aces.
