Game Recap: Field Hockey | | Zach Freeman

Chargers Fall to Express, 4-0

The Lancaster Bible College Field Hockey team played its first game in Lancaster in 33 years on Saturday, and though not a true home game yet, it was nice for the Chargers to play in front of family and friends, despite the 4-0 loss to visiting Wells at Lancaster Mennonite School. The loss drops the Chargers to 0-4 overall and 0-2 in North Eastern Athletic Conference play, while Wells improved to 1-3 overall and 1-0 in NEAC action.

Game Recap: The Chargers and Express fought through the midfield in the opening 20 minutes, as neither team could get much going offensively. Wells finally cracked the scoreboard at 23:47, as Alyssa Rocas tipped in a pass that came across the circle.

The Chargers trailed by the same score at halftime, and had some good offensive chances early in the second half, but Wells withstood the pressure, and took a 2-0 lead at 46:10 on a goal from Mollie Walts, who scored off a penalty corner.

Wells made it 3-0 at 50:56, and Lancaster Bible had its best scoring chance of the day at 55:02, when Blessing Bowman took a penalty stroke, but her shot was saved by Express goalie Allison Solomon, and the score remained 3-0.

The Express capped the scoring at 58:58, as Coleman scored again after dribbling the ball in from 20 yards out and scoring into the lower right-hand corner.

By the Numbers: Wells held a 12-4 edge in shots, and an 8-3 advantage in shots on goal…The Express also held a 6-4 lead in penalty corners…Cassidy Snedeker led the Chargers with two shots, while goalie Anne VanBuskirk, playing her first collegiate game between the pipes, made three saves.

The Coach Says: "We are still going through many of the growing pains of having a brand new program, and there are things we can improve upon, but we had some decent offensive play today, and we will look to build on that," Lancaster Bible Head Coach Becky Elliott said.

Information Hodge Podge: Saturday marked the first meeting between the two schools…The four penalty corners were the second-most for the Chargers in a contest this season…Lancaster Bible is 0-for-2 on penalty strokes this season.

Up Next: Lancaster Bible is scheduled to take on Marywood on Thursday at 5 p.m. in Scranton, Pa.
