Blue Jays Sweep Past Chargers

The Lancaster Bible College women's volleyball team saw its three-match winning streak come to an end on Tuesday night, as the Chargers lost to cross-county foe Elizabethtown, 3-0 in Elizabethtown, Pa. The Chargers are now 6-5 overall, while the Blue Jays improved to 8-6 after the 25-12, 25-22, 25-18 victory. 

Match Recap: Elizabethtown jumped out to a 10-3 lead in the first set, and after two Lancaster Bible points, expanded the lead to 17-6 after two kills and an ace. A kill from Sarah Schneider and an error by Lancaster Bible gave the Blue Jays the opening set, 25-12. 

Lancaster Bible opened the second set with three straight points, and then led 8-4 after back-to-back kills from Bekah Roberts and Ashtyn Bouslog. The Blue Jays battled back to take a 12-10 lead, but the Chargers earned three straight points, the final one coming on an ace from Hannah Thompson, to grab a 13-12 advantage. With the match tied at 19-19, Elizabethtown won three straight points, though Lancaster Bible cut the deficit to one after kills from Courtney Goyak and Hannah Gipe. The Blue Jays won three of the next four points however, and took the set, 25-22.

Elizabethtown led 8-1 early in the third set, and though Lancaster Bible cut its deficit to five on two separate occasions, the Chargers couldn't complete the comeback, and lost the set, 25-18.

By the Numbers: The Blue Jays held a 48-26 advantage in kills, and a 48-44 edge in digs...Gipe led the Chargers with 10 kills, while Goyak had four kills...Aleah Heyworth had three kills and a team-high 10 digs, while Erin Harkey and Thompson each had two aces.

The Coach Says: "Not a lot of positives tonight," Lancaster Bible Head Coach Micah Herron said. "The scoreboard doesn't define who we are, but I thought it reflected our effort for much of the match tonight. We need to keep working on having consistency through an entire match, with both our play and mental toughness."

Information Hodge Podge: Lancaster Bible is now 0-9 all-time against Elizabethtown...Through 11 matches, the Chargers have 420 kills and have given up 420 kills...Lancaster Bible is now 4-2 in true road matches this season...Gipe has 10 or more kills in six of her 11 matches this season.

Up Next: Lancaster Bible is right back on the court on Wednesday night, as the Chargers travel to Dover, Del. to face Wesley at 7 p.m.
