The Lancaster Bible College women's volleyball team won its third straight match on Thursday night, defeating Wilkes, 3-1 in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. The Chargers dropped the first set, 25-22 on Thursday, but rattled off wins in the next three sets, winning them, 25-19, 25-22, 25-21. The victory propels the Chargers to 3-3 this season, while the Colonels fell to 4-2.
Match Recap: The Chargers fell into an early hole in the first set, but battled back to take a 15-13 lead midway through the opening frame. After a Wilkes scoring run, the Chargers cut their deficit to 22-21, but the Colonels won three of the final four points of the set, and took the opener, 25-22.
Lancaster Bible jumped out to leads of 4-0, 8-2 and 10-5 in the second set, and eventually led 14-7 after a kill from junior
Allison Shuey. Wilkes cut its deficit to 18-15 later in the set, but the Chargers again won four straight points, and put the set away.
The Chargers opened the third set strong as well, earning six straight points to take an early 9-2 advantage. The Colonels fought back throughout the rest of the set, and cut the Chargers' lead to 19-18 after three straight points. Back-to-back errors restored Lancaster Bible's three-point lead, and they wouldn't relinquish it, as they took the third set, 25-22.
The fourth set was a back-and-forth affair, as the teams traded points to 15-15, before the Chargers won three straight points. Sophomore

Courtney Goyak had kills during the short three-point run, and senior
Jenny Mulvey secured two aces later in the set, to give the Chargers a 22-17 advantage. Wilkes won four of six points late in the set to make it a 24-21 Lancaster Bible lead, but a service ace ended any chance of a comeback, and gave the Chargers their third straight win.
By the Numbers: In a statistically even match, the Chargers held a 46-42 edge in kills, while each team had 41 assists and 60 digs...The Chargers had nine blocks to the Colonels four...Heyworth and senior
Hannah Gipe each had 11 kills to pace the Chargers, while Heyworth added four blocks as well...Goyak had eight kills and a career-best seven blocks, while Shuey had 33 assists, 17 digs, and four blocks...Senior

The Coach Says: "We didn't play very well in the first set, and committed a bunch of unforced errors that we just don't usually see," Lancaster Bible Head Coach
Micah Herron said. "We responded in the final three sets though, and played well. Wilkes has some really good players, and we did a good job of shutting them down in the final three sets. We showed some grit, and I'm proud of the way the team fought back and took care of business."
Information Hodge Podge: Lancaster Bible is now 5-1 all-time against Wilkes...The Chargers defeated the Colonels, 3-1 last season as well...Lancaster Bible had two three-match winning streaks a year ago...The Chargers are 4-1 in the fourth set of matches this season.
