The Lancaster Bible College men's basketball team saw its road woes continue with the start of a new year, as the Chargers lost to Juniata on Wednesday, 81-63 in Huntingdon, Pa. Lancaster Bible is back to the .500 mark at 5-5 overall, while the Eagles improved to 5-7. The Chargers are 1-3 in true road games this season, and 1-4 in all games away from Horst Athletic Center, while they have posted a 4-1 mark in Lancaster.Â
How it Happened: The teams traded baskets over the first six minutes of the game, though each team had shooting woes. Lancaster Bible took a 7-4 lead on a 3-pointer from
Tyler Hilton, but Juniata answered right back with a three from Nathan Markey. Markey's triple was the start of a 9-0 run, that was finally broken on a three-point play from the Chargers'
Quentin Davis.
Â
The Chargers trailed by as many as 11 midway through the opening quarter, but began to chip away, and
Benny Raymond's 4-point play with 4:58 remaining cut the deficit to five, 25-20. The Eagles' lead grew back to 10 two minutes later, but again the Chargers fought back, and
Jordan Shewbridge's 3-pointer with 45 seconds to play cut the Juniata advantage to five.
Â
After trailing by six at halftime, the Chargers worked hard to try and trim the deficit even more, which they did on another 3-pointer from Shewbridge that made it a 40-38 game in favor of the Eagles. That would be the beginning of the end for the Chargers however, as Juniata used a 9-0 run to restore its 11-point advantage at 49-38.
Â
Lancaster Bible's
Isaac Beers drained a 3-pointer with 8:31 to play to cut the Chargers' deficit to 58-51, but it would as close as the Chargers would get the rest of the way, as Juniata went on an 11-0 scoring run to build a 69-51 advantage with just under five minutes to play.
