The Lancaster Bible College field hockey team lost a close game to Neumann on Wednesday evening, as the Chargers fell, 3-2 to the Knights in Aston, Pa. The Chargers are now 3-11 overall this season, while Neumann improved to 5-9.
Â
How it Happened: The Knights jumped out to an early 1-0 lead 6:28 into the game, as Bri Lagroteria scored off a pass from Sam Picker. Neumann had all four of the game's shots in the first quarter, and both penalty corners, as the Chargers did their best to fend off the Knights.
Â
After no action early in the second quarter, Neumann doubled its lead at 21:50, as Lagroteria scored again, this time off a feed from Anissa Fleming. Lancaster Bible quickly turned the momentum around however with three straight penalty corners less than a minute after Lagroteria's goal.
Â
Nicole DeKok's initial shot was blocked off the third corner, but
Cassidy Snedeker was there for the rebound, and cut the Chargers' deficit to one. Just 5:59 later, freshman
Macy Balmer scored for Lancaster Bible, and knotted the game at 2-2 with 1:06 remaining in the opening half.
Â
The third quarter began as the first quarter did, and Neumann had two shots and three penalty corners, but the Chargers were able to fend off the chances. After a shot from
Brooke Sareyka went wide midway through the third frame, Neumann regained possession, and eventually scored what turned out to be the game-winner with 5:33 left in the third quarter, as Sam Picker made it 3-2.
Â
Lancaster Bible had three shots over the final 1:15 of the third quarter, including two that were saved by Neumann goalie Meg Frame. Each team posted three shots in the fourth quarter, including a shot that was saved by Frame off the stick of Balmer with 4:26 remaining.
