Phoenix Rise Over Chargers

The Lancaster Bible College field hockey lost its fifth straight game on Saturday, as the Chargers fell to Wilson, 5-1 in Chambersburg, Pa. Lancaster Bible is now 3-12 overall this season, and 1-3 in Colonial States Athletic Conference play, while the Phoenix improved to 6-7 overall and 2-1 in CSAC action.
 
How it Happened: Wilson opened the scoring at the 7:26 mark, as Alexis Pflumm scored off a pass from Abigail Rosenberry to make it 1-0. Just 2:50 later, Wilson made it 2-0, as Michaela Singer scored for the Phoenix.
 
Lancaster Bible trailed, 2-0 at the end of the first quarter, but freshman Macy Balmer scored for the second straight game, and cut the Chargers' deficit to one, 2-1 with 9:43 remaining in the second quarter.
 
Wilson retook its two-goal lead with 3:07 to play in the first half, as Singer scored again, this time off a pass from Autumn Irwin. The Phoenix led, 3-1 at halftime, and then scored 8:52 into the third quarter, to make it 4-1, as Alexis Alleman scored off a feed from Singer.
 
The Phoenix completed their scoring just prior to the end of the third quarter, as Morgan Burkepile made it 5-1 with 49 seconds to play in the third frame.
 
Statistically Speaking: Wilson outshot the Chargers, 18-4, including 10-2 in shots on goal…Wilson had 14 penalty corners, while the Chargers had none…Balmer's goal was her fourth of the season...Chloe Campbell made five saves for the Chargers.
 
The Coach Says: "We had a few too many mental errors today, and it cost us," Lancaster Bible Head Coach Becky Elliott said. "We will look to regroup next week at practice, and get ready for Cedar Crest on Wednesday.
 
News & Notes: Lancaster Bible is now 4-3 all-time against Wilson…Saturday's contest was the first between the two teams since the 1985 season…The Phoenix defeated the Chargers, 1-0 in 1985, and have now won the last three games of the all-time series…The Chargers are 1-9 on the road this season, and have just one away game remaining on the 2019 schedule.
 
Up Next: Lancaster Bible returns home on Wednesday evening, as the Chargers host Cedar Crest at 6 p.m…Wednesday is Staff & Faculty Night, as all Lancaster Bible staff and faculty are welcome to the game, and can enjoy light refreshments prior to the contest.
