Lancaster Bible Closes 2019 with Loss at Keystone

The Lancaster Bible College field hockey team wrapped up its 2019 season on Wednesday night with a 5-0 loss to Keystone in La Plume, Pa. The Chargers conclude the 2019 campaign with an overall record of 3-15, and a 1-5 mark in Colonial States Athletic Conference play, while the Giants improve to 10-7 overall and 5-0 in CSAC action.

How it Happened: Keystone got on the board early in the first quarter, as Jackie Martin scored 2:56 into the contest to make it 1-0. The Chargers kept the deficit at one through the end of the first quarter, and three minutes into the second, but the Giants scored twice in 45 seconds at 18:13 and 18:58, as April Llewellyn and Shannon Green netted goals for Keystone.

The Chargers trailed, 3-0 at halftime, but any chance of a comeback, which the Chargers have been known for late in this season, ended at 33:23, as Amy Llewellyn scored her first goal of the season to make it 4-0. April Llewellyn scored again with 45 seconds left in the third quarter to extend the lead to 5-0.

Lancaster Bible managed five shots and a penalty corner in the third quarter, but couldn't get any shots past Keystone goalkeeper Megan Novak.

Statistically Speaking: Keystone outshot the Chargers, 28-7, including 14-5 in shots on goal…The Giants also held a 20-3 advantage in penalty corners…Lancaster Bible goalkeeper Chloe Campbell made nine saves in the loss…Senior Nina Statuti led the Chargers with three shots, including two on goal in her final collegiate game.

The Coach Says: "We were outmatched tonight, as they were faster and passed well," Lancaster Bible Head Coach Becky Elliott said. "That said, we were able to hold the conference leader and goals and points to no points tonight, and that's a credit to our defense. Corryn and Chloe Yablonski played terrifically for us tonight."

On the season and going forward: "We have improved so much from last year, and we are so proud of these girls," Elliott said. "Now on to the off season to continue moving forward."

News & Notes: Wednesday was the first-ever meeting between the two teams…The Chargers cap the season with a 1-10 record on the road…Keystone won the CSAC last season, and appeared in the NCAA Division III Tournament…Lancaster Bible's 22 goals scored this season are a 1,000 percent increase from a year ago when the team scored just twice…Lancaster Bible's 4.33 goals against average is a full two goals lower than last season…In addition to Statuti, Corryn Wolgemuth also played her final collegiate field hockey game on Wednesday night…Earlier in the day, Lancaster Bible had four players and Head Coach Becky Elliott earn accolades from the North Eastern Athletic Conference.
