Game Recap: Field Hockey | | Zach Freeman

Soaring Eagles Fly Past Chargers

The Lancaster Bible College field hockey team saw its first-ever winning streak come to an end on Sunday afternoon, as the Chargers' two-game win streak ended at Elmira with a 5-0 setback. The loss drops the Chargers to 3-8 overall this season, while Elmira improved to 5-5.

How it Happened: The Soaring Eagles scored three times in the first quarter on Sunday afternoon, including 3:37 into the contest, when Janie Kempf scored the first of two goals on the day off a feed from Kelsie Aloi. Aloi made it 2-0 almost eight minutes later, as she tapped in a crossing pass from Sarah Griffith.

Elmira capped its first quarter scoring with 1:47 to play in the opening frame on a goal by Kylie Rosen. Kempf's second goal of the game came with 6:51 to play in the first half, and Elmira led 4-0 at halftime. The Chargers had their lone shot and penalty corner of the contest during the second quarter, but came up empty on both.

After a scoreless third quarter, Aloi added her second goal of the game, and seventh of the season, with 5:13 remaining to produce the final score.

Statistically Speaking: Elmira outshot the Chargers, 23-1, including 12-0 in shots on goal…The Soaring Eagles also held a 10-1 edge in penalty corners…Lancaster Bible goalie Chloe Campbell made seven saves for the Chargers…Corryn Wolgemuth recorded the lone shot of the game for Lancaster Bible.

The Coach Says: "The score today did not reflect our quality of play," Lancaster Bible Head Coach Becky Elliott said. "It was a competitive game in the midfield, but Elmira was able to capitalize in the offensive end. Our defense did a great job staying intense, and this was a good test for us moving into a conference game on Wednesday that will be played on grass."

News & Notes: Sunday marked the first-ever contest between the two schools in field hockey…Lancaster Bible is now 1-6 on the road this season…Campbell has 69 saves this season.

Up Next: Lancaster Bible returns to Colonial States Athletic Conference play on Wednesday in Baltimore, Md., as the Chargers take on Notre Dame (Md.) at 4 p.m.
