Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Zach Freeman

Express Speed Past Chargers

The Lancaster Bible College men's basketball team suffered its second straight loss on Saturday, as the Chargers lost to Wells, 80-74 in Aurora, N.Y. The Chargers dropped to 13-9 overall, and 10-3 in North Eastern Athletic Conference with the loss, and have lost two straight for the first time in six weeks. The Express improved to 4-17 overall with the victory and 3-10 in conference action.

How it Happened: Lancaster Bible scored on its first two possessions of the game, as Quentin Davis converted a layup 10 seconds into the game, followed by a 3-pointer from Jordan Shewbridge a minute later. The Chargers' offense went cold after that however, and Wells led, 8-5 after 2:35 of play.

Davis helped the Chargers rejuvenate the offense however, as he took advantage around the basket, and scored six straight points to tie the game at 11-11. The final four points from Davis were the start of a 16-0 run, that saw Lancaster Bible turn an 11-7 deficit into a 23-11 lead with 12:27 to play. Davis had 10 points during the run, while Luke Beers and Benny Raymond added 3-pointers.

Wells was unfazed however, and began to chip away at the deficit and eventually took a 33-31 lead with 53 seconds to play, before leading 36-33 at halftime.

In the second half, the Chargers re-took the lead early, and then expanded it to 49-44 on a 3-pointer by Shewbridge with 13:33 remaining. The Express battled back to within one, 53-52, but another triple from Shewbridge put the lead back to four with 9:39 to play.

Wells fought back again, and took a 61-58 lead with under seven minutes to play, but a layup from Davis cut the Chargers' deficit to one. A 12-4 run from Wells ensued after Davis' layup however, and the Chargers found themselves down, 73-64 with 2:29 remaining after a layup from AJ Nesci. Lancaster Bible took its turn to claw back into the game, and trailed just, 75-74 after a layup from Britton Beachy with 24 seconds to play.

Nesci made one of two free throws on the other end, but Lancaster Bible could not convert on its offensive side of the floor, and Rich Ross' layup with five seconds to go effectively ended the game.
