Lancaster Bible Caps Spring Break Trip with Win

The Lancaster Bible College baseball team wrapped up its spring break trip in Myrtle Beach, S.C. with a victory on Friday morning, as the Chargers defeated Dean (Mass.), 9-3. Lancaster Bible is now 3-4 overall this season, while the Bulldogs dropped to 1-8.
 
Game Notes:
-Lancaster Bible opened the scoring in the bottom of the first as Luis Padilla Jr. was hit by a pitch, and then advanced to third on a single by Will Welsh…With Jacob Schenck at the plate, Padilla scored on a wild pitch to give the Chargers an early lead
-The Chargers doubled their lead in the bottom of the second, as Jake Hahn doubled home Jacob Alvarez who had singled and then advanced on a wild pitch earlier in the inning
-Lancaster Bible tacked on two more runs in the third inning, as Hahn and Adam Cohick had back-to-back RBI singles
-Welsh doubled home Colin Myers in the fourth inning, and Schenck's sacrifice fly scored Padilla to make it 6-0 in favor of the Chargers after four innings
-The Chargers took a break from scoring in the fifth inning, but were back at it in the sixth, as Welsh singled home Myers again to increase Lancaster Bible's lead to 7-0
-Lancaster Bible starter Dan Zimmerman was terrific on Friday, as he closed out his day in the top of the seventh, getting a strikeout to end the inning
-The Bulldogs finally got on the board in the top of the eighth, and scored three runs, as they took advantage of two Lancaster Bible errors
-Welsh continued to mash the ball in the eighth, as he doubled again, and knocked in Josh Saufley, and Welsh then scored on a wild pitch to end the scoring, and give the Chargers a 9-3 lead
-This was the first-ever meeting between the two schools
 
Inside the Box Score:
-Welsh finished a perfect 5-for-5 from the plate, as he drove in three runs, and scored two more…Friday marked the second time in Welsh's career he has collected five hits in a game, as he also accomplished the feat on Apr. 26, 2016 against Clarks Summit…Welsh's three doubles on Friday were the most he has ever had in a single game during his collegiate career
-Myers finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a walk, while Padilla was 1-for-3 with two runs and a walk
-Hahn was 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run, while Cohick was 2-for-3 with an RBI
-Zimmerman went seven innings, striking out a career-best 11 batters and allowing just two hits
-Alec Gordley and Padilla also pitched for the Chargers, as they combined to allow just one hit in the final two innings
 
Up Next: Lancaster Bible travels to Chestertown, Md. on Tuesday to take on Washington (Md.) in a game that was originally scheduled to be played on March 4…First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
