Chargers and Wildcats Split Doubleheader

The Lancaster Bible College baseball team scored at will in game one of a doubleheader at SUNY Poly on Saturday, but struggled in game two, as the Chargers and Wildcats split a doubleheader in Utica, N.Y. The Chargers took game one, 19-5, and dropped game two, 8-3, and now stand at 8-11 overall and 4-4 in NEAC play, while the Wildcats are 6-17 overall and 4-4 in NEAC action.

How it Happened: Well Welsh got the Chargers on the board in the top of the first, as he doubled to right field, scoring Josh Saufley, and Nate McFarland came around to score later in the inning, and Lancaster Bible led by two after an inning of play.
 
The Chargers scored twice more in the third, and then exploded for nine runs in the fourth inning, and led 13-0 after four innings of play. Jacob Schenck had a two-run single in the fourth, while Colin Myers, Beau Heagy, Mike VanDame, Luis Padilla and Saufley also added RBI hits.
 
Lancaster Bible scored five more times in the sixth inning and led 18-0, before SUNY Poly answered with five runs of their own in the bottom half of the sixth. Adam Cohick capped the scoring with an RBI single that scored Welsh after he had doubled.
 
Inside the Box Score: Lancaster Bible had 19 hits in game one, including six doubles…Saufley was 4-for-6 with four runs scored and an RBI…Welsh was 3-for-5 with two doubles and four runs scored…Jaden Pinkney was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored…Cohick finished 3-for-6 with three RBIs and a run scored, while Schenk as 2-for-6 with two RBIs and a run scored…Heagy was 1-for-5 with three RBIs…Trevor High had another strong start, as he went 5 2/3 innings, scattering 10 hits, while not allowing any earned runs and striking out eight.

How it Happened: Lancaster Bible opened the scoring the top of the first, as Jake Hahn's sacrifice fly scored Nate McFarland. SUNY Poly tied the game on an RBI single in the second, but Lancaster Bible re-took the lead in the third on Schenck's RBI single to left field that scored Saufley.
 
The Wildcats took their first lead of the game in the fourth inning, as Bradley Dietz smacked a three-run home run and gave the home team a 4-2 lead. SUNY Poly extended it to 7-2 in the sixth inning, but Lancaster Bible answered back with a run in the seventh when Schenck scored off an error.
 
SUNY Poly got the run back in the bottom of the inning, and held on over the last two innings for the doubleheader split.
 
Inside the Box Score: The Chargers outhit the Wildcats, 10-7 in game two, as Saufley and McFarland each had two hits and a run scored…Schenck was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run, while Cohick, Pinkney, VanDame and Colin Myers each had a hit…Zimmerman pitched six innings, as he allowed five hits and seven runs, while striking out six…Zach Clemens and Cohick also pitched for the Chargers.
 
Information Hodge Podge: Lancaster Bible is now 5-10 all-time against SUNY Poly…Lancaster Bible is 2-6 in true road games this season, and 5-10 in all games away from Charger Field…Welsh extended his hitting streak to 11 games on Saturday.
 
Up Next: The rubber match between the two teams will be Sunday at 10 a.m.
