Chargers Win NEAC Regular Season Title

The Lancaster Bible College men's tennis team won the program's first-ever North Eastern Athletic Conference Regular Season title on Saturday, as the Chargers won a thriller over Penn St. Abington, 5-4 in Abington, Pa. The win completes a perfect NEAC slate for the Chargers, as they are now 8-2 overall and 4-0 in NEAC play. The Nittany Lions are now 6-6 overall and 2-1 in conference play.
 
How it Happened: Lancaster Bible took two of the three doubles matches on Saturday, as the No. 2 team of Tyler Norris and Ming Bowser won, 8-4 over Ilker Erkut and Jose Palomeque, and Derice Butler and Yancy Butler were victorious at No. 3 doubles, 8-3. The No. 1 team from Lancaster Bible, Luke Newberry and Keven Vallette, dropped a tough match, 8-6 to Michael Litz and Phillip Antonoff.
 
Litz defeated Newberry at No. 1 singles as well, earning a 6-2, 7-5 win, while Norris lost to Erkut, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 singles. Yancy Butler picked up a win for the Chargers at No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-4, and Vallette posted a 6-4, 7-6 victory at No. 4 singles. Bowser defeated Palomeque, 6-4, 6-4 at No. 5 singles, while Derice Butler lost a hard-fought match at No. 6 singles, 2-6, 6-2, 6-2.
 
Information Hodge Podge: Saturday also marked the first time in program history the Chargers have defeated Penn St. Abington, and Lancaster Bible is now 1-8 all-time against the Nittany Lions…The eighth win of the year for Lancaster Bible also sets a program record, breaking the tie with the 2013 team that went 7-7…The Butler brothers are now 7-0 in doubles action this season, and went a perfect 4-0 in NEAC play...The NEAC Team Playoffs will be Thursday, April 25, and Friday, April 26 in Clarks Summit, Pa.
 
Up Next: Lancaster Bible will play its final home match of the season on Tuesday, as the Chargers host Bryn Athyn at Hempfield Rec Center in Landisville, Pa. at 3 p.m.
