Nittany Lions Complete Sweep of Chargers

The location for Saturday's doubleheader with Penn St. Berks may have changed, but the results did not, as the Nittany Lions swept the Lancaster Bible College baseball team, and put the Chargers' backs against the wall in terms of qualifying for the North Eastern Athletic Conference playoffs. The Nittany Lions took game one, 14-6 on Saturday, and then won game two, 14-8, as the Chargers dropped to 8-15 overall and 4-8 in conference play, while Penn St. Berks improved to 19-8 overall and 10-2 in NEAC action.

Penn St. Berks scored six more times in the fourth inning, as they had five hits in the inning, and also took advantage of three Lancaster Bible errors.

Lancaster Bible got on the board in its half of the fourth inning on an RBI single from Mike VanDame, but the Nittany Lions got it right back with a run in the fifth. Josh Saufley had a two-run single for the Chargers in the sixth inning, and a batter later, Jaden Pinkney hit the first collegiate home run of his career, as he smashed a three-run homer that scored Saufley and VanDame. Pinkney's home run cut the Chargers' deficit to 13-6, but they couldn't get any closer and dropped game one.

How it Happened: After two scoreless innings for both teams, Penn St. Berks opened the scoring in the top of the third, but the Chargers came right back and tied the game in the bottom half of the inning, as Jake Hahn singled home Jacob Schenck to tie the game at 1-1.

The following inning, Lancaster Bible took a brief 2-1 lead, as Myers scored when McFarland reached on an error. The lead didn't last long, as Penn St. Berks plated nine runs in the top of the fifth, and took a 10-2 lead. The Nittany Lions scored two more runs in the sixth inning, though Lancaster Bible cut into it a bit in the bottom half of the inning on a grand slam by Schenck that made it 12-6. Myers doubled to left-center field later in the inning, and scored Hahn and Cohick, making it 12-8.
