Bats Power Chargers to First NEAC Win

The Lancaster Bible College baseball team saw its offense wake up in a big way on Saturday, as the Chargers pounded 24 hits and scored 29 runs in take the opening game of a three-game series with Gallaudet, 29-5 at Charger Field. Lancaster Bible is now 4-9 overall and 1-3 in North Eastern Athletic Conference play, while the Bison dropped to 7-16 overall and 0-4 in NEAC action.
 
How it Happened: The Chargers led from the get-go, as Luis Padilla Jr. hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first to score Josh Saufley. Lancaster Bible scored again in the second inning, and then blew the game open in the third inning with five runs, as Jacob Schenck hit the first of his three home runs on the day, while Adam Cohick hit a two-run home run in the inning too.
 
Gallaudet got on the board in the fourth inning, but Saufley hit a three-run home run in the fifth inning, and Padilla added a two-run home run later in the inning as well, as the Chargers grabbed a 12-1 advantage. The Bison scored four times in their half of the sixth inning, but Schenck hit his second home run in the sixth, and Lancaster Bible scored four more times in the seventh inning as well.
 
Lancaster Bible sent 17 batters to the plate in the eighth inning, as the Chargers tacked on 12 more runs on nine hits and an error. Schenck singled and hit his third home run of the game, this one a grand slam, in the inning, while Saufley homered and walked in the eighth. Tommy Croke had an RBI single in the inning, while Will Welsh singled and walked as well in the inning.
 
Inside the Box Score: Schenck finished 4-for-7 with six RBIs and four runs scored…Cohick was 5-for-7 with three runs and three RBIs…Welsh was 3-for-5 with three RBI, three runs scored and two walks…Padilla was 2-for-2 with five RBIs and three runs scored…Saufley was 3-for-6 with four runs and five RBIs…Jake Hahn was 2-for-5 with two walks, two runs scored and an RBI…Dan Zimmerman pitched six strong innings and earned his second win of the year…Zimmerman allowed just four hits and one earned run over six innings, and struck out eight…Alec Gordley, Landon Mowry and Tony Gehman also pitched on Saturday for the Chargers.
 
Information Hodge Podge: The 29 runs scored are the most the Chargers have scored since March 10, 2016 when Lancaster Bible defeated Valley Forge, 35-0 in Myrtle Beach, S.C…Lancaster Bible scored 20+ runs in a game four times last season…Saturday marked the sixth time this season the Chargers have had double-digit hits in a game…Lancaster Bible's eight home runs on Saturday are also a season-high…Three players now how 10+ RBIs this season, as Welsh (16), Padilla (12) and Schenck (12) are all in double digits.
 
Up Next: Lancaster Bible and Gallaudet will wrap-up their three-game series on Sunday, as the teams will begin a doubleheader at 12 p.m….Game one is set for seven innings, while game two will be a nine-inning affair.
