The Lancaster Bible College men's tennis team won its fifth straight match on Saturday, defeating Penn St. Berks, 5-4 in a tremendous match in Reading, Pa. The Chargers are now 5-1 overall and 2-0 in North Eastern Athletic Conference play, while the Nittany Lions dropped to 2-10 overall and 0-2 in conference action.

How it Happened: Like the Lancaster Bible women's tennis team, the Chargers won two of three doubles matches to take an early lead.
Luke Newberry and
Keven Vallette fell, 8-4 at No. 1 doubles, while
Tyler Norris and
Ming Bowser earned an 8-3 victory at No. 2 doubles.
Derice Butler and
Yancy Butler also won, defeating Shane Leaf and Sneh Patel, 8-1 at No. 3 doubles.

Norris dropped a 6-3, 6-1 decision at No. 2 singles, while
Yancy Butler lost, 6-3, 6-0 at No. 3 singles. Bowser earned a 6-4, 6-0 victory at No. 4 singles, and Vallette won, 6-3, 7-5 at No. 5 singles.
Derice Butler played a strong match, but lost, 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 at No. 6 singles, and it was up to No. 1 singles player

Newberry dropped the first set, 7-6 (8), but responded with a 7-6 (8) win of his own in the second set. Newberry's opponent, Diego Olazagasti battled an injury throughout the match, and was forced to retire prior to the third set, and gave the No. 1 singles match to Newberry, and the overall match to the Chargers.

Information Hodge Podge: Lancaster Bible is now 1-12 all-time against Penn St. Berks, as the Chargers defeated the Nittany Lions for the first time in program history…The five-match winning streak for the Chargers continues to be a new program-record…Lancaster Bible has already surpassed its win total from a year ago, and needs just two more wins to equal the total of the 2013 squad which holds the record for most wins in a year…Bowser, Newberry and Vallette are each 5-1 overall in singles play this season.
