Chargers Remove Interim Tag from DiFilippo

Lancaster Bible College Director of Athletics Pete Beers, in conjunction with the leadership at Lancaster Bible College, announced on Wednesday that the interim tag would be removed from Head Baseball Coach Frank DiFilippo, officially making him the 19th coach in program  history, after he guided the Chargers this past season to a 12-20 overall record and an 8-10 mark in North Eastern Athletic Conference play.

DiFilippo was named the interim coach in August of 2018 after the previous coach TJ Horn transitioned to a job outside of the college in July of 2018. In addition to coaching the baseball team, DiFilippo has done an excellent job managing athletic facility rentals, as well as his work as game manager for men's and women's soccer, as well as field hockey.

The Chargers missed the 2019 NEAC Baseball Playoffs by one game this past season, as Lancaster Bible played better for much of the season than perhaps its record indicates. The Chargers dropped one-run games to Gettysburg and Lebanon Valley during the regular season, but also scored non-conference wins over Elizabethtown and Centenary.

"I'm excited to keep building this program, and am very thankful to Pete Beers for entrusting its growth to me," DiFilippo said. "I think this decision not only provides me stability, but to our baseball program as well."

DiFilippo, who was the team's main assistant coach for the six years prior to becoming the interim head coach, said he has grown a lot as a coach over the past nine months.

"I've learned a lot about patience, as well as learning that I am responsible for all of the decisions both on the field and off for this program," DiFilippo said. "I have truly enjoyed deepening my relationship with the players in our program, and look forward to growing those relationships even more in the coming years."

Beers said he was pleased with the direction of the program this past year under DiFilippo.

"Frank has done a good job with taking over the program and brought his best effort on a daily basis this past year," DiFilippo said. "He has earned the chance to lead this program, and I think he has acclimated himself to our culture, and I'm excited about the future of Lancaster Bible Baseball."

The Chargers will begin fall practice in early September.
