Chargers Can't Catch Nittany Lions

The Lancaster Bible College baseball team opened up its final regular season series of the year on Friday with a loss to Penn St. Abington, 7-2 in Abington, Pa. The loss drops the Chargers to 11-19 overall this season and 7-9 in North Eastern Athletic Conference play, while the first-place Nittany Lions improved to 20-14 overall and 13-2 in NEAC action.

How it Happened: Penn St. Abington got on the board in the bottom of the second after the Chargers failed to score in the top half of the inning with the bases loaded and only one out. The Nittany Lions had three hits in the inning and a two-run single from Tyler Dipatri put Penn St. Abington up 2-0.

The Chargers had another opportunity to score in the fifth with two on and nobody out, but again, they failed to score, and the Nittany Lions made them pay with a run in the bottom half of the inning that made it 3-0.

Lancaster Bible finally pushed two runs across the plate in the top of the seventh, as Beau Heagy doubled to left, and Colin Myers singled up the middle to put runners on second and third with one out. Mike VanDame smashed a double to right-center that scored Heagy, and Myers scored on Josh Saufley's sacrifice fly during the next at-bat, and the Chargers trailed just 3-2.

Penn St. Abington wasted no time upping its lead, as the Nittany Lions put four runs on the board in the bottom half of the inning, and won by the same 7-2 score two innings later.
