Chargers Blast Highlanders

The Lancaster Bible College women's volleyball team won for the second time in three matches on Tuesday night, as the Chargers swept Cairn, 3-0 in Langhorne, Pa. The Chargers improved to 4-7 this season after defeating the Highlanders, 25-10, 25-9, 25-17.
 
How it Happened: The Chargers won eight of the first 10 points of the first set, as a kill from Allison Shuey, followed by a block assist by Shuey and Courtney Goyak, gave the Chargers an 8-2 lead. Lancaster Bible eight of nine points later in the set, as back-to-back kills by Kate Smoker gave the Chargers a 21-9 advantage, and the visitors eventually took the set, 25-10.
 
Lancaster Bible jumped out to an 11-2 lead in the second set, as the Chargers took advantage of Cairn errors, and got a kill from Cassidy King to make it 11-2. After a point by the Highlanders, Lancaster Bible won 11 straight points, and took a 22-3 lead. King had the final four points of the run, blasting a kill, and then serving three straight aces. Chloe King ended the set a few points later with a kill, as the Chargers won the set, 25-9.
 
The Chargers started quick again in the third set, as a kill from Rebekah Godshall gave Lancaster Bible a 5-1 lead. Raylee Feather had two aces in the middle of the set, as the Chargers took a 13-5 lead, and Rebekah Stone had a kill later in the set to give the Chargers a 22-15 advantage. After two points by Cairn, the Highlanders committed three straight errors to end the match, as the Chargers took the final set, 25-17.
 
By the Numbers: Lancaster Bible had 24 kills and 11 errors on 78 attempts for a .167 hitting percentage, while the Highlanders had nine kills and 21 errors on 68 attempts for a -.176 hitting percentage…The Chargers had 14 aces, and led 34-28 in digs…Courtney Goyak had a team-high five kills, while Smoker had two kills and six aces…Aleah Heyworth had three kills, as did Cassidy King, who also had four aces and four digs…Chloe King and Ashtyn Bouslog also had three kills each, while Maelynne Patey had five digs…Mandy Carroll had a team-best 10 digs, while Faith Helman added five assists and a dig.
 
The Coach Says: "We played well tonight, and were really focused on our quality of play, rather than just winning the match," Lancaster Bible Head Coach Micah Herron said. "Everyone got to play and contribute to the win, and hopefully this gives us a boost as we head into conference play on Thursday and Saturday."
 
News & Notes: Lancaster Bible is now 16-34 all-time against Cairn…The Chargers have won six straight matches against Cairn, and haven't lost to the Highlanders since late in the 2013 season…Lancaster Bible is now 2-2 in true road matches this season…The 11 hitting errors for the Chargers were a season-low…Tuesday marked the third time this season the Chargers have had double digit aces in a match, and the 14 tied a season-best.
