Game Recap: Field Hockey | | Zach Freeman

Blazers Top Chargers, 3-1

The Lancaster Bible College field hockey team lost its third straight game on Wednesday night, as the Chargers fell to Hood, 3-1 in Frederick, Md. The Chargers are now 1-5 overall this season, while Hood improved to 1-6 in 2019.

How it Happened: Hood took an early 1-0 lead 9:11 into the contest, as Laurann Rowe scored the Blazers first goal of the year. Sage Barnhart gave Hood a 2-0 lead 10:11 later, as she doubled the home team's lead with 8:38 remaining in the first half.

Trailing 2-0 at the half, Lancaster Bible cut Hood's lead in half just 50 seconds into the third quarter, as Nina Statuti deflected a shot from Blessing Bowman into the back of the cage. The goal was Statuti's second of the season, and got the Chargers back into the game.

Lancaster Bible thought they had found the back of the cage again later in the half, but the referee signaled that the ball didn't cross the line on a tip by Macy Balmer, and the score remained 2-1.

Hood ended any chance of a comeback with 5:11 remaining in the fourth quarter, as Julia Cencetti scored off a pass from Libby Bahoric, and gave the Blazers a 3-1 lead.

Statistically Speaking: Hood outshot the Chargers, 10-6, including 4-2 in shots on goal…The Blazers also led in penalty corners, 4-3, while Lancaster Bible goalkeeper Chloe Campbell made one save.

The Coach Says: "Hood came out with intensity in the first half, and we didn't do a great job matching it until early in the second half when we scored in the opening minute," Lancaster Bible Head Coach Becky Elliott said. "It wasn't enough today, but we need to keep pushing, and work on playing a full 60 minutes."

News & Notes: Lancaster Bible is now 0-2 all-time against Hood…The Chargers lost, 1-0 to the Blazers last season in Lancaster…Statuti's goal broke a two-game scoreless streak for the Chargers, and Statuti has scored two of the three Lancaster Bible goals this season…Lancaster Bible is now 0-4 on the road this season.

Up Next: Lancaster Bible is back on the field on Tuesday night when they travel to Bethlehem, Pa. to face Moravian at 5:30 p.m.
