The Lancaster Bible College men's volleyball team lost its first match of the season on Tuesday night, falling to 10
th ranked Arcadia, 3-1 at Horst Athletic Center in a very entertaining match between two very good teams. The victory sends the Knights to 3-3 this season, while the Chargers are now 5-1, as Arcadia won, 25-22, 23-25, 26-24, 26-24.
Â
How it Happened: Arcadia opened a 14-9 lead midway through the opening set after the teams exchanged points for the first part of the frame. The Knights held the margin until late in the set when the Chargers cut it to 20-18 after two straight kills from
Zeke Hallman. The Knights battled back and won four of the next six points, and though the Chargers cut the deficit to two again at 24-22, Arcadia closed out the set on a kill from Jarod Pichler.
Â
Arcadia raced out to an 8-5 lead in the second set, but three errors by the Knights, and kills from
Benjamin Herb and
Kole Horst gave the Chargers a 10-9 lead midway through the set. The Knights took control later in the set, winning six of eight points for a 19-17 advantage. Lancaster Bible then took its turn to make a run and rattled off four points out of five for a 21-20 lead, as a block assist from Horst and
Jacob Faust ended the run. The teams exchanged service errors late in the set, and with the Chargers leading 24-23, Arcadia committed another attack error and gave the set to Lancaster Bible.
Â
The third set featured many of the second set's qualities, as both teams took turns scoring multiple points in a row. After Arcadia took a 14-11 lead,
Reuben Kemrer and Herb sandwiched kills around two errors from the Knights, and took a 15-14 lead. Arcadia responded with five points out of six, and led 19-17, but Hallman and Herb blasted kills to tie the set at 19-19. The Charger would eventually build a 24-21 lead after kills from Horst, Faust, and
Kyran Flahive, but Arcadia wouldn't go away quietly, and used three straight kills to the set, and then won it on an ace from Pichler, and a kill from Austin Braas.
Â
The Knights led the fourth set, 13-11, but Lancaster Bible earned three straight points to grab a 14-13 lead midway through the frame. The Knights returned the favor and built a 24-22 advantage later in the set, but it was the Chargers' turn to never-say-quit, and Lancaster Bible used a kill from Horst, followed by a block from he and Faust, to tie the set at 24-24. The Knights settled down, and earned another match point after a kill from Jason Manley, and then won the match on an attack error by the Chargers.
