Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Zach Freeman

Rough Shooting Night Spells Doom for Chargers

The Lancaster Bible College men's basketball team had its three-game win streak snapped on Tuesday night, falling to Penn St. Abington, 65-44 in its final North Eastern Athletic Conference South Division contest of the regular season. The Chargers are now 12-11 overall and 10-4 in NEAC play, and finish the regular season with a 7-3 mark in NEAC South Division games. Penn St. Abington improves to 11-12 overall and 6-8 in NEAC play.

The 7-3 record in NEAC South Division play clinches second place in the division for the Chargers, and Lancaster Bible will play Penn College in next Tuesday's NEAC Quarterfinals at Horst Athletic Center. Penn St. Harrisburg has clinched the top spot in the division, and secured a spot in the NEAC Final Four on the weekend of Feb. 28-29.

How it Happened: Neither team shot the ball well in the opening minutes of the first half, as Kaleb Murry's layup 5:46 into the contest gave Lancaster Bible a 7-5 lead. The teams continued to struggle offensively, and Jordan Shewbridge's jumper with 11:06 to play in the first half tied the game at 9-9. Lancaster Bible wouldn't score again for over four minutes, and Tyler Norris' layup with 6:52 to play in the opening half cut the Chargers' deficit to six, 17-11.

Lancaster Bible cut its deficit to two, 19-17, with 5:41 remaining in the half, but those were the last points of the half for the Chargers, and Lancaster Bible trailed, 25-15 at halftime.

Lancaster Bible's offense didn't fare much better in the second half, as the Chargers scored just 13 points in the first 10 minutes of the second frame, and Murry's layup with 10:14 to play trimmed the Chargers' deficit to 45-28.

The Chargers trailed by as little as 12 later in the half, but never got to within single digits again, and Penn St. Abington held Lancaster Bible to just five points over the final six minutes of the game, and won by 21.
