Chargers Stumble at SUNY Poly

The Lancaster Bible College men's basketball team dropped its second straight game on Friday night, falling to SUNY Poly, 80-53 in Utica, N.Y. The Chargers are now 12-12 overall this season, and 10-5 in North Eastern Athletic Conference play, while the Wildcats improve to 15-9 overall and 12-3 in conference action.
 
How it Happened: Lancaster Bible raced out to a 6-0 lead over the opening 3:30 of the contest, as Tyler Norris scored all six points for the Chargers. After SUNY Poly tied the game at 6-6, and the teams traded baskets, Jordan Shewbridge restored Lancaster Bible's lead at 11-8 after a three-point play.
 
Another basket from Norris and a 3-pointer from Shewbridge gave Lancaster Bible a 16-12 lead, but that would be the final lead, and highlight, of the night for the Chargers, as SUNY Poly went on a 26-0 run over the next 8:48 and blew the game wide open.
 
Lancaster Bible eventually trailed, 44-21 at halftime, and SUNY Poly opened a 30-point lead midway through the second half after a 3-pointer from Josh Gregory. The Chargers couldn't make any inroads into the SUNY Poly lead the rest of the way, and lost by 27.
 
By the Numbers: Lancaster Bible shot 36.8 percent (21-of-57) from the field, including just 4-of-14 from 3-point range…The Chargers were also just 7-of-14 from the free throw line…SUNY Poly shot 50 percent (28-of-56) from the floor, including 8-of-14 from beyond the arc…The Wildcats were also 16-of-27 from the free throw line…SUNY Poly also held a 24-7 edge in points off turnovers…Shewbridge led the Chargers with nine points, while Norris added eight points…Adam Stoltzfus had four points and seven boards for the Chargers, while AJ Holmes added seven points…Josh Gregory led five SUNY Poly players in double figures with 16 points.
 
News & Notes: The Chargers are now 6-5 all-time against SUNY Poly…The Chargers split two games with SUNY Poly a year ago, as Lancaster Bible defeated the Wildcats, 71-67 during the regular season in Lancaster, but lost to SUNY Poly, 67-64 in the NEAC Semifinals in Morrisville, N.Y. later in the year…Lancaster Bible is now 3-9 on the road this season…Over the past two games, Lancaster Bible is 4-of-29 from 3-point range.
 
Up Next: Lancaster Bible wraps up its regular season on Saturday at SUNY Cobleskill, as the Chargers battle the Fighting Tigers at 1 p.m…Following Saturday's game, Lancaster Bible will begin preparing for the NEAC Quarterfinals, which the Chargers will host on Tuesday night at 7 p.m., as Penn College comes to Horst Athletic Center.
