Chargers Hit Rough Patch in South Carolina

The Lancaster Bible College baseball team continued its spring break trip in Myrtle Beach, S.C. on Monday and Tuesday, and though the weather was nice, the scoreboard was less than ideal, as the Chargers lost four times in two days. Lancaster Bible dropped a doubleheader to Albertus Magnus, 15-7 and 5-1 on Monday, and then lost to Hood, 11-0 and 12-4 on Tuesday. The Chargers are now 1-6 overall this season, and will have Wednesday off before returning to the diamond for games on Thursday and Friday.

Game 1 Notes
-Lancaster Bible raced out to a 5-0 lead in the second inning, as Colin Myers doubled home Blake Greenly, and Mike VanDame, Nate McFarland, and Jake Hahn also picked up RBI's in the inning
-Myers doubled again in the third inning to make it 6-1, and VanDame hit a sacrifice fly later in the inning to extend the advantage to 7-1.
-It was downhill from there for the Chargers however, as Albertus Magnus got a run back in the fourth, three more back in the fifth, and then took an 11-7 lead after a six-run sixth inning
-Albertus Magnus tacked on four more runs in the seventh to earn the 15-7 win
 
By the Numbers: Albertus Magnus had 18 hits, and scored 13 runs in the final three innings of the game…The Chargers had 10 hits…Josh Saufley, McFarland, Myers, and VanDame each had two hits for the Chargers…Myers was  2-for-4 with two run scored and two RBIs…Greenly finished 0-for-1 with two walks and two runs scored.
 
Game 2 Notes
-Albertus Magnus scored once in both the first and second innings, and then extended its lead to 4-0 in the third inning
-Luis Padilla Jr. connected for a home run in the fourth inning to bring the Chargers to within three
-Albertus Magnus got the run back in the bottom half of the fourth, and won the game by the same margin
 
By the Numbers: Lancaster Bible out-hit Albertus Magnus, 7-6, but the Chargers also led in errors, 3-0…Greenly pitched six strong innings, as he struck out seven and allowed just three earned runs and six hits…Jacob Stong was 2-for-3 for the Chargers, while Saufley, Padilla, Hahn, Beau Heagy, and Colin Harkey also had hits for the Chargers.
 
News & Notes: Lancaster Bible is now 5-3 all-time against Albertus Magnus.

Game 1 Notes
-Hood scored four times in the second inning, and then pushed the lead to 7-0 in the third inning
-The Blazers scored twice more in fourth, and then scored once in both the fifth and sixth innings
-Lancaster Bible hitters struck out eight times during the game
 
By the Numbers: Lancaster Bible did not post a hit in game one…Six different players had an RBI for Hood…Landown Mowry started the game for the Chargers, while Ethan Varricchione and Nick Bair also threw for the Chargers…Three different pitchers combined to hold Lancaster Bible hitless in game one.
 
Game 2 Notes
-The Chargers jumped out to a 4-0 lead after a half-inning of play, as Greenly picked up an RBI on a groundout, and Kyle Ebersole crushed a three-run home run that scored Heagy and Varricchione
-The Blazers got a run back in both the first and second innings, and then exploded for nine runs in the third inning to blow the game open
-Hood sent 12 batters to the plate in the third, and had seven hits in the inning as well
 
By the Numbers: Lancaster Bible had seven hits in game two, but again committed three errors defensively…Saufley was 2-for-2 with a walk and run scored…Heagy also recorded a hit and run…Danny Navarro picked up his first two collegiate hits, as he went 2-for-3…Adam Randolph, Josh Noll, Alec Gordley, and Dan Zimmerman  pitched for the Chargers.
 
News & Notes: Lancaster Bible is now 1-8 all-time against Hood…Lancaster Bible is hitting just .212 through seven games this season.
 
Up Next: Lancaster Bible is off on Wednesday, and will play Bethany (W. Va.) on Thursday at 3 p.m.
