Chargers Close Spring Break (and Season) with Win

The Lancaster Bible College baseball team ended its 2020 season with a win on Friday morning in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, as the Chargers defeated MacMurray (Ill.), 9-4. On Thursday, Lancaster Bible suffered a 10-8 loss to Bethany (W. Va.), and the Chargers end their season with a 2-7 overall record. Lancaster Bible season ends due to the Chargers cancelling all sports for the rest of the season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Game Notes
-The Bison jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first, but Lancaster Bible got two runs back in the bottom half of the inning, as Jake Hahn and Jaden Pinkney picked up RBIs
-Bethany restored its four-run lead in the fifth with two runs, and then took a 9-2 lead with a run in the seventh and two more in the eighth
-The Chargers scored four times in the eighth inning to get back into the game, as Josh Saufley homered, and Kyle Ebersole hit an RBI single…Blake Greenly knocked in two runs later in the inning, and the Chargers trailed just 9-6 heading into the ninth
-Bethany scored once in its half of the ninth to take a 10-6 lead, but Lancaster Bible made things interesting in the bottom of the ninth as Ethan Varricchione doubled home Beau Heagy, and Hahn followed with an RBI single…The Chargers couldn't complete the comeback however, and lost by two.
 
By the Numbers: Bethany had 17 hits, while the Chargers had 11…Saufley, Varricchione, Hahn, and Nate McFarland each had two hits for the Chargers…Hahn and Greenly each had two RBIs as well…Trevor High pitched 4 2/3 innings, while Matthew Shaeffer and Zach Clemens also pitched for the Chargers.
 
News & Notes: This was the first-ever meeting between the two teams.

Game Notes
-The Highlanders got on the board in the top of the first, but Lancaster Bible tied the game at 1-1 on an RBI double from Luis Padilla Jr.
-The Chargers added a run in both the second and third innings as well, with Jake Hahn and Mike VanDame posting RBI hits.
-MacMurray climbed back to within one in the top of the fourth, but the Chargers scored four times in the fifth to open a 7-2 lead…Josh Saufley had a two-run single in the inning, and Jaden Pinkney added a two-run home run.
-The Highlanders scored once in the seventh and ninth innings, but VanDame had another RBI hit in the eighth, and Blake Greenly secured the save.
 
By the Numbers: The Chargers had 14 hits…Mike VanDame was 3-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored…Saufley was 2-for-4 with two RBIs…Luis Padilla, Jr. was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and three runs scored…Beau Heagy was 2-for-4…Dan Zimmerman started, and struck out six over six innings, while allowing just three runs…Blake Greenly pitched the final three innings, and allowed just one hit, while earning his first collegiate save.
 
News & Notes: Lancaster Bible is now 2-0 all-time against MacMurray…The only other time these teams have played came on Mar. 17, 2018 when the Chargers won, 3-2…That game also took place in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
