Lancaster Bible Drops Opening Two Games

The Lancaster Bible College softball team opened its 2020 season with two losses in North Myrtle Beach, S.C. on Monday, as the Chargers lost to Gettysburg, 9-0, and Brevard, 3-1. Gettysburg is now 4-1 overall this season, while Brevard improved to 4-5.

Game Notes
-Gettysburg scored in three of the four innings it batted, as the Bullets scored twice in the first inning on a two-run double from Shelby Baker
-The Bullets tacked on four more runs in the second inning, highlighted by Emily Colline's two-run triple
-Gettysburg then scored three more times in the third inning to take a 9-0 lead
-The Chargers were held without a hit in the contest, and Lancaster Bible batters struck out 11 times against Gettysburg pitcher Tori Ferraiolo
 
By the Numbers: Bryanna Hoover was the lone Lancaster Bible batter to reach base, as she reached on an error in the top of the second, but was then thrown out trying to steal second…Lancaster Bible starter Tracy Hatton pitched four innings and had two strikeouts while allowing 12 hits.
 
News & Notes: This was the first-ever meeting between the two schools…Since bringing softball back to varsity status in 2014, the Chargers have won their season opener just once…Lancaster Bible opened the 2015 season with a 4-3 victory over St. Lawrence.

-After two scoreless innings, Brevard scored twice in the third inning, the first coming on an error by the Chargers, while the second came on an RBI double
-Brevard scored again in the fifth inning for a 3-0 lead
-The Chargers scored their first run of the season in the top of the sixth, as Martina McCauley reached on an error, and advanced to third…After a strikeout, Kendra Brown walked to put runners on the corners…Bryanna Hoover reached on an error as well, and McCauley scored to cut the Chargers' deficit to two…With runners on second and third however, the Chargers couldn't score again in the inning
-Lancaster Bible went down 1-2-3 to end the game in the seventh
 
By the Numbers: Lancaster Bible had three hits in the game, while the Tornadoes had seven…Sonja Nelson, Becky Gingrich, and Hoover had hits for the Chargers…Brown drew two walks, while Adalyn Steiner also drew a walk…Nicole DeKok pitched well in her first outing of the year, as she went six innings, and allowed just one earned run and seven hits.
 
News & Notes: Monday marked the first-ever matchup between the two teams…The hits for Nelson and Gingrich were the first of their collegiate careers…This is the sixth time in DeKok's career that she has allowed just one earned run in a start.
 
Up Next: Lancaster Bible continues its spring break trip on Tuesday with games against Greenville (9:30 a.m.) and Franciscan (11:30 a.m.).
