Men's Basketball Drops Battle With Grove City

How It Happened
The Lancaster Bible College men's basketball team dropped their matchup with Grove City in the Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament at Geneva College, falling by a score of 89-83 on Saturday, November 20.
 
The Chargers (2-2 Overall) traded baskets early with the Grove City (2-2 Overall, 0-1 PAC). The Wolverines surged ahead by four before Jordan Shewbridge converted a layup. Two possessions later, Shewbridge drained one of his four 3-pointers to close back within a point. After a Brayde Erb layup, Shewbridge again connected from distance to tie the game at 14. Grove City answered back with an 8-2 run to retake a six-point advantage. Grant Sareyka slashed the deficit in a half, swishing a 3-pointer to make the score 22-19. After six straight points by the Wolverines, the Chargers would respond with three straight layups of their own from Caleb Carpenter and Tyshaun Pulley. Pulley then connected on a jumper to pull LBC within a single point. Jordan Praylow converted two free throws at the four-minute mark, tying the game at 31. LBC tied the score three times over the next two minutes but could not surge ahead. Grove City scored the final four points of the half to hold a 41-37 lead at the break.
 
Grove City started fast in the second half, opening the half on a 15-4 run to pull ahead by 15-points. Sareyka stopped the run with a layup and on the next possession Tyler Hilton swished a 3-pointer to close back within 10 points. Sareyka found his rhythm, stroking a 3-pointer and hitting a jumper as LBC closed back within five points. Sareyka led the Chargers in scoring with 25 points, earning a spot on the All-Tournament Team. After four straight points by the Wolverines, Jalen Glasgow came away with a steal and score to swing momentum back towards LBC. Sareyka hit back-to-back layups before Glasgow scored a layup in transition to make the score 62-61 with 9:55 remaining. Praylow and Sareyka each connected on jump shots as the lead swung back-and-forth between the teams. After being tied at 65, Grove City rattled off eight straight points to retake control of the game. Shewbridge helped the Chargers make one last push, drilling a 3-pointer with 2:53 remaining to pull within three points. Grove City would battle back, using some clutch free throw shooting to capture an 89-86 victory.
 
Inside The Numbers
- Grant Sareyka paced the Chargers' offense, scoring 25 points on 10-25 shooting from the field. Sareyka made an impact defensively, swiping six steals
- Jordan Shewbridge scored 14 points going 4-7 from beyond the arc
- Tyler Hilton scored 13 points and he led the team with seven rebounds
- Jalen Glasgow made an impact off the bench, scoring 10 points on 5-6 shooting from the field
- Grove City was led by Joshua McCray who scored 26 points
- The Wolverines won the battle on the glass, holding a 51-38 advantage in rebounds
- The Chargers defense held Grove City without a 3-pointer, the Wolverines were 0-6 from beyond the arc

The men's basketball team will return home for the team's home opener against York College on Tuesday, November 23 at 7:00 p.m.
