Four Chargers Earn NEAC All-Conference Honors

The North Eastern Athletic Conference announced its selections for its Baseball All-Conference Teams on Friday morning, and Lancaster Bible College had four student-athletes earn honors, as senior Trevor High and junior Ethan Varricchione were named to the NEAC All-Conference First Team, while freshman Brian Coburn and sophomore Blake Greenly earned NEAC All-Conference Second Team honors.

High was terrific in his seven starts this season, as he went 4-3 overall and threw four complete games. He led the NEAC with a 2.09 earned run average, and his four complete games also led the conference. High threw 38 2/3 innings this season and allowed just nine earned runs, while batters hit .234 against him.

Varricchione led the Chargers with a .389 batting average this season, and also paced the Chargers with a .778 slugging percentage. Varricchione collected a team-high 28 hits, and also smashed a team-best six home runs. His three triples this season were the third-most in the NEAC, while his slugging percentage was the fourth-highest in the conference. Varricchione had at least one hit in 16 of the 20 games he appeared in.

Coburn had a tremendous first season with the Chargers, as he hit .289 this season, and was one of six players on the team with 20 or more hits. He tied for the team lead with 18 runs scored, and also drove in eight runs as well. Coburn drew a team-best 14 walks, which was also the ninth-highest mark in the NEAC. Coburn also earned two wins on the mound this season, as he pitched 32 innings for the Chargers this season and struck out 21 hitters.

Greenly did a little bit of everything for the Chargers this season, as he hit .338 and had 22 hits. He was hit by a pitch 10 times this season, which led the team and was third in the NEAC. He stole a team-high seven bases, and his .476 on-base percentage was the ninth-best in the conference. Greenly also threw 31 innings this season and struck out a team-high 24 batters.

In addition to their NEAC honors, Varricchione and High were also named to the NCCAA Division I Midwest All-Region Team.

Penn St. Harrisburg collected two big awards on Friday, as Bret Williams was named NEAC Player of the Year and Drew Harshbarger was named NEAC Pitcher of the Year. Penn St. Abington collected the other top awards, as Justin Fogel was named NEAC Rookie of the Year and Head Coach Josh Copskey was named NEAC Coach of the Year.

Lancaster Bible finished the 2021 season with an 8-13 overall record, as the team earned a spot in the NEAC Semifinal Series and took top-seeded Penn St. Harrisburg to three games. The NEAC Playoff win was the first in program history for the Chargers.
