How It HappenedÂ
The Lancaster Bible Field Hockey team fell in their season opener to Eastern Mennonite by a score 8-0 on Friday, September 3.Â
The Royals (1-0 Overall) took an early lead, scoring a pair of goals in the first six minutes. Lancaster Bible (0-1 Overall) had eight players making their collegiate debuts and they began to settle in midway through the opening quarter. With under eight minutes remaining in the quarter, Bethany Snyder created the Chargers' first scoring opportunity, firing a shot that was deflected before getting to the goal. Eastern Mennonite would tack on third goal with under two minutes left in the first quarter.Â
Eastern Mennonite would again strike quickly, finding the back of the net twice in the first six minutes to build a five goal advantage. Lancaster Bible put pressure on the Royals, drawing a penalty corner. Alexis Gilbert launched a shot on frame but a defensive save prevented the goal. Moments later off another penalty corner Hannah Hoffman had a shot blocked. Haley Stahl then found some space, taking a shot that missed just wide. The Chargers defense stiffened to close the half, stopping four consecutive shots to keep the score 5-0 heading into the half.Â
LBC struggled to get their footing in the third quarter, allowing two more goals to the Royals. Alexis Garrett made six saves in her first career college game. EMU would score one more time, securing the 8-0 victory.Â
