How It HappenedÂ
The Lancaster Bible Men's Soccer Team fell to Alvernia University by a score of 2-1 on Sunday, September 5.Â
Early in the game, both teams struggled to string together consistent possession. The Chargers' first scoring chance came in the 10th minute when Jackson Shreiner found some space just inside the 18 yard box and sent a shot just over the cross bar. Late in the opening half, Alvernia's Michael Peirce drew a red card, giving the Chargers a man advantage. Off the ensuing free kick, Shreiner got a shot on goal that was saved but the rebound rolled to the feet of Owen Nell. Nell capitalized on the chance and buried a shot in the back of the net.Â
Alvernia regrouped at halftime and came out strong in the second half. The Golden Wolves scored off a free kick in the 52nd minute to level the game at one. Three minutes later, Alvernia's Ryan Kuster scored on a header off a corner kick to put the Golden Wolves ahead 2-1. The Chargers looked to respond controlling more of the possession, but failed to create many scoring chances. The Red & Black's best scoring chance came in the 83rd minute when Chad Tolson took a shot from in the box, but at the last moment Alvernia's Goalkeeper Ben Solsky pushed the ball just wide of the goal. Alvernia held on for the 2-1 victory.Â
