How It Happened
The Lancaster Bible College men's volleyball team fell to #14 Marymount University in straight sets to open the tri-match on Saturday, January 29.
The Chargers (6-2 Overall) got off to a slow start, falling in a 7-1 hole in the first set. LBC battled back, winning three of the next four points with a kill by
Kevin Koch making the score 8-4. Marymount (6-0 Overall) responded, going on a 3-0 run to take a seven-point advantage.
Elijah Herb halted the run, crushing a pair of kills to help the Chargers pull back within four points. Marymount answered back, reeling off five consecutive points to take a 16-7 lead. LBC chipped away at the deficit with kills by
Caleb Roberts and Koch bringing the Chargers within six points. The Saints continued to grow the lead, eventually taking a 23-14 lead. The Chargers made a massive late rally, winning eight of the next nine points to pull back within two points. Marymount halted the rally, picking up a 25-22 set victory.
The Saints once again sprinted out to a large early lead in the second set, taking a 7-2 lead. The teams traded points, with Marymount taking a 12-6 advantage. The Saint then went on a 6-2 run, taking a commanding 18-8 lead. The Chargers could not rally back, eventually falling 25-11.
LBC started much stronger in the third set with a kill by Herb tying the game at four. Herb and
Hunter Davis fired back-to-back kills to give LBC a 6-5 lead. Marymount responded going on a 6-1 run to recapture a four-point lead.
Dawson Forney and Herb slammed down two consecutive kills helping the Chargers tie the score at 13. LBC remained within striking distance until Marymount used a 4-0 run to take a 24-19 lead. The Chargers tried to start one more rally, but could not close the gap, falling 25-20. Â Â

How It Happened
The Lancaster Bible College men's volleyball team defeated Hiram College in their second game of the tri-match, winning by a score of 3-1 on Saturday, January 29.
The Chargers (7-2 Overall) took an early 3-0 lead in the first set behind a kill from
Dawson Forney. Hiram answered right back, using a 5-0 run to take their first lead of the game. The Terriers (2-3 Overall) continued to grow their advantage, eventually taking a 12-6 lead.
Caleb Roberts started the Chargers rally, crushing a kill.
Elijah Herb started to find his rhythm, slamming down a kill and firing a service ace to bring LBC back within two points. The Chargers kept battling, eventually tying the set at 15. LBC went on a 6-1 run to seize control of the set. Herb and Forney closed out the set with back-to-back kills, giving LBC the 1-0 lead in the match.
Kevin Koch put the Chargers ahead in the second set, firing a kill that gave LBC a 4-2 advantage. The volleys began to increase in length as the teams traded 14 consecutive points. After Hiram tied the set at 15, Herb crushed one of his career-high 26 kills to put the Chargers back in front. The set remaining extremely close with the teams eventually becoming deadlocked at 24. LBC would fight off three possible set points from the Terriers with
Hunter Davis crushing a thunderous kill to tie the set at 26.
Tanner Shertzer secured the set for the Chargers, blasting a service ace through Hiram's defense and helping the Chargers take a 2-0 lead in the match.
The third set was also highly contested, with the Chargers building a 19-14 lead. Hiram responded with their backs against the wall, reeling off six consecutive points as the team rallied to win the set 25-23. Both teams were showing signs of fatigue entering the fourth set, but LBC, led by Herb, battled to take a 7-3 lead in the set. Davis and Roberts fired back-to-back kills, increasing the advantage to five. Hiram again rallied, going on a 5-0 run to capture a 15-14 lead. LBC had an answer this time, halting the Terriers run with a 4-0 run themselves, highlighted by two more kills from Herb. The Chargers won four of the final five points with Herb securing the match victory with one final kill.

Elijah Herb posted a career high 26 kills to power the Chargers' offense. His 26 kills are seventh-most in a single game in school history. Herb also recorded a double-double adding 13 digs

- LBC also won the dig battle, digging up 74 balls
Who's Next
The men's volleyball team will travel to Owings Mills, Md. to take on Stevenson University and Southern Virginia University in a tri-match on Saturday, February 5, the first match set to start at 3:30 p.m.
